Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesAs a Medical Assistant/Medical Office Representative at Dignity Health Medical Foundation clinics, now part of CommonSpirit Health, you’ll keep the day running smoothly and efficiently for your patients and clinical team. You’ll take the lead on proactively preparing patient charts- ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in our facility. You can expect to have multiple patients daily depending on the number of physicians are on-site.

Some of your daily activities will include:
- Assisting in preparing patients for examinations or procedures, assisting with procedures, relaying instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person, and collecting patient data
- Administering medications specifically directed by the physician and performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment, and performing patient care services that support the physician / provider's practice under the clinical supervision of the Physician, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant, or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- Comfortable managing medical records- charts and EMR
- Communicate and document any patient concerns to physicians, physician’s assistants, or nurses
- Work with physicians, insurance providers, and pharmacies to obtain authorizations for patient medication, including refills
- Provides excellent customer service.

Consistently states first name and wears name badge above the waist.
Keeps patient informed about appointment delays and offers solutions every 10 minutes.
Assists patient with completion of paperwork. Provides status of authorizations and/or referrals to patients in a timely manner. - Demonstrates technical competence.
Consistently demonstrates competence as outlined in the applicable DHMF audit tools and job description.
Meets or exceeds telephone performance expectations consistently by answering within 3 rings and keeping abandonment rates below 5%.
Takes legible, clear, complete, and accurate messages per specific expectations outlined by applicable procedures and department supervisor.
Schedules acceptable appointments and/or procedures per patient expectations and as outlined by department supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
Verifies and updates patient demographics and insurance information.
Accurate collection and data entry of payments and provides a receipt.
Follows all cashiering, batching and end of day balancing procedures.
Accurately completes and documents ROI, HIPAA, and other forms.
Retrieves and prepares patient medical information as needed. - Obtains pre-authorizations for procedures, imaging, tests, medications.
Routes, manages, prioritizes, and completes tasks every hour or per specific expectations as outlined by department supervisor.
Rooms patients; Assists in prepping patients for examinations or procedures; Assists with procedures.
Relays instructions from the provider to a patient or an authorized person.
Accurately obtains, interprets, and documents all patient vital signs.
Collects and prepares blood samples for testing according to established standards.
Documents patient concerns, patient messages, and care provided to the patient in the patient's medical record for physician's review.
Stocks and cleans exam rooms after every use.
Sets up trays and equipment before a physician arrives to treat patients per proper protocols and supervisor guidelines.
Accurately documents, calculates, and safely administers all medications after obtaining a physician's written order. - Accurately submits RX requests to pharmacies within 30 minutes after obtaining a physicians written order.
Completes disability and FMLA forms.
Proactively ensures medications are current and all expired medications are quickly and properly disposed of. Narcotics logs and all QC controls are consistently in compliance.
Other duties as assigned.

Promptly refers patients to billing office for extensive billing questions.
Documents insurance cards, referrals, authorizations, and other billing data.

- Satisfactory completion of formal MedicalAssistant program pursuant to the Divisionof Allied Health Professions or militarytraining that is equivalent to an accreditedMedical Assistant program (determinationby DHMF HR department in conjunctionwith the State Division of Allied Health).,

Preferred
