Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday (Shifts start between 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM; schedules released a month in advance)
Position Type: Contract (1,040 Hours / 40 hours per week)
Pay Rate Range: $22.19 – $37.72 per hour (Dependent on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking a high-energy, collaborative, and dedicated Medical Assistant to act as a patient care coordinator and advocate. In this role, you will maintain clinical supplies, ensure proper documentation, and optimize patient flow in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This position features a strong team-based culture focused on breaking down silos and supporting multiple providers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinic Flow & Floating: Float dynamically between two busy clinic floors (2nd and 3rd floors) to support 8 surgeons and 3–4 Physician Assistants (PAs). Note: No coverage required on the Surgery Center (ASC) floor.
- Patient Care: Room patients, obtain accurate vital signs, take patient histories, and document chief complaints.
- Volume Management: Efficiently manage high patient volumes (Surgeons average 20–24 patients/day; PAs average 15–20 patients/day).
- Provider Support: Assist providers with clinical procedures, arrange exam room instruments, prepare sterile fields using vigorous aseptic techniques, and hold/position patients safely during exams or imaging.
- Chart Prep & Documentation: Perform comprehensive chart prepping at least once a week. Accurately document all patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Communication & Triage: Perform phone triage, make post-op calls, respond to voicemails within 24 business hours, and coordinate diagnostic testing/care at outside facilities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school graduate (or equivalent) and graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- Licensure: Active Washington State Certified Medical Assistant (preferred) or active Registered Medical Assistant verified with the Department of Health (DOH).
- Exclusion: Candidates with strictly an MAP (Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist) background are not a fit.
- Experience: Prior experience in a high-volume, busy clinic is required. Orthopedic experience is preferred but not required (training is provided).
- New Grads: Open to motivated new graduates who possess a strong drive, excellent personality, and the ability to train up quickly.
- Technology: Familiarity with Epic (Providence Community Connect) and/or NextGen is a major plus, though comprehensive training will be provided during the first few weeks.
