Face-2-Face Talent Solutions
Hayward, CA

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Experience Level: Mid-Level (3–7 years hands-on engineering experience)

Compensation: Base salary (up to ~$180k for more senior-level candidates) + 10%-15% bonus

Work Authorization: No visa sponsorship available now or in the future (cannot consider H-1B or OPT)

About the Role

We’re hiring a Mechatronics/Robotics Software Engineer to join a small, highly technical Advanced Technology/Innovation team with our client, a leading tier-1 automotive pioneer and innovator that provides safety-critical mechatronic systems to high-end/high-performance OEMs globally.

This team builds intelligent systems that sit at the intersection of software, controls, hardware, and applied AI, based on what leading electric and autonomous vehicles will need 5-10 years into the future. The work is hands-on, system-level, and prototype-driven, with a strong emphasis on taking ideas from concept through implementation and validation.

This is for engineers who enjoy building real systems that interact with the physical world and want to see their work on the road.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and test software for intelligent and mechatronic systems for high-end automotive OEMs, mainly EVs and AVs
  • Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts that integrate software, sensors, control logic, and data-driven components
  • Write high-quality code primarily in C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Apply control theory and system modeling to real-world engineering problems
  • Integrate software with hardware, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces (CAN, embedded networks, basic cloud connectivity)
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, controls engineers, data scientists, and hardware teams
  • Support system testing, validation, debugging, and iteration
  • Take end-to-end ownership of technical projects, from early exploration through working implementation
  • Produce clear technical documentation to support long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience as an Embedded Software Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, Robotics Engineer, Controls Engineer, or similar role
  • Strong hands-on experience with C and/or C++
  • Practical experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink
  • Solid understanding of system-level engineering and how software interacts with physical systems
  • Experience working with sensors, signals, control loops, or embedded interfaces
  • Comfortable working in Linux-based development environments

Nice to Have:

  • Robotics, automotive or autonomous systems experience
  • Control systems (PID, LQR, MPC, nonlinear control)
  • ROS or ROS2
  • Embedded systems or real-time systems
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
  • Mechatronics or electromechanical systems experience
  • Applied AI / machine learning integration experience (not research-only)
  • Experience in automotive, industrial, or hardware-adjacent environments

Successful engineers in this role tend to:

  • Think in systems, not just components
  • Enjoy prototyping, experimentation, and iteration
  • Move comfortably between theory and implementation
  • Take ownership and follow problems through to resolution
  • Communicate clearly across disciplines
  • Prefer working on real hardware-connected systems, not just concepts

This role is not a fit if you’re looking for:

  • Frontend-only or web-only development
  • Pure machine learning or data science roles
  • Academic or research-only positions
  • Large, narrowly scoped product teams

Why Join

  • Work on real, intelligent systems, not demos
  • High visibility and real impact inside a well-stablished, global, automotive technology leader with sterling brand name recognition
  • See your ideas move from prototype to real-world application
  • Collaborate with deeply technical engineers across software, controls, and hardware
  • Grow your career in mechatronic systems and intelligent software engineering
