S Piper Staffing LLC
Royal Oak, MI

The Mechanical Engineer will help grow the firm’s internal engineering capability, along with collaborating with external consultants, where applicable. This individual is a licensed Professional Engineer who will design and produce stamped mechanical and plumbing construction documents, coordinate mechanical scope within the company's BIM environment, and collaborate closely with the architectural and electrical teams from early design through construction administration. The Mechanical Engineer works in tandem with the Electrical Engineer to provide complete in-house building systems coverage. Healthcare project experience is a plus; a willingness to develop that expertise within the practice is expected. This is a high-visibility, foundational role at a firm that is actively building its engineering capability that allows the right candidate to help shape what that practice becomes.

  • Perform HVAC system design including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air distribution; perform load calculations and size and specify equipment and distribution systems appropriate to project type and occupancy
  • Design plumbing systems including domestic hot and cold water, sanitary, storm drainage, and natural gas; coordinate medical gas systems on applicable healthcare projects with licensed medical gas contractors
  • Coordinate mechanical and plumbing scope within the project BIM model; participate in multi-discipline coordination meetings and resolve conflicts with architectural, electrical, structural, and civil teams
  • Coordinate with the Electrical Engineer on mechanical equipment power requirements, controls integration, and building automation system (BAS) interfaces
  • Prepare mechanical and plumbing specifications across applicable Master Format divisions; review shop drawings and submittals during construction administration
  • Conduct site visits during construction to observe mechanical and plumbing installations, respond to RFIs, and confirm conformance with construction documents
  • Support business development by contributing to proposals and client presentations where in-house engineering capability is a differentiator
  • Establish mechanical and plumbing standards, typical details, and specifications libraries for the firm as the engineering practice is built out
