The Senior MCC SCTCT Infusion Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to patients at the Mays Cancer Center. Provide nursing care to immunocompromised patients with complex needs, including hematology stem cell transplant and cellular therapy patients across the adult and geriatric spectrum in the outpatient setting. Demonstrate competency across the continuum of malignant hematology and stem cell transplantation. Deliver high-quality care across all domains of practice when caring for patients receiving cellular therapies. Develop and implement an individualized plan for utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Ensures enhanced patient outcomes through effective communication, collaboration, mentorship, and effective delegation in the exercise of his/her independent judgment. May lead or mentor lower level team members. Assesses the unit's needs related to practice and improvement opportunities. Applies comprehensive knowledge of hematopoietic stem cell transplant and cellular therapies in patient care, including managing disease states, utilizing transplant immunology principles, conducting patient evaluations, and providing follow-up care. Conducts physical examinations, completes complex medical testing, interprets results, consults with physicians, and implements treatment plans for patients under care; administers medications and injections as needed. Administration of cellular therapy products, including hematopoietic stem cells, immune effector cells, and other cellular therapies. Safely administer high-dose chemotherapy, innovative cellular therapies, immunotherapies, stem cell reinfusions, blood products, growth factors, hydration, and associated medications, Administers cellular therapy products and signs of emergency and higher-level care needed. Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly and works closely with the assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc., are scheduled accordingly. Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members. Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed. Follows-up on diagnostic tests, labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider. Refers patients as needed to appropriate specialist, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team, provides daily wound care as needed, schedules follow up appointments, weekly check appointments, and procedure appointments. Educates patients and family members on the therapy process. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Five (5) years of nursing experience in a healthcare environment is required. Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience is preferred.
