Job Title: Materials Yard Worker

Job Description

The Materials Yard Worker supports outdoor logistics and warehousing operations by unloading materials from rail cars, transferring products onto semi-trailers, and assisting with mobile conveyor equipment. This role is entirely outdoors, highly physical, and involves working on and around ramps, rail cars, and trailers while helping to keep material moving safely and efficiently throughout the yard.

Responsibilities

  • Unload totes, concrete powder, and other products from rail cars and transfer them onto semi-trailers using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Operate and eventually assist in moving mobile conveyor systems, including small, walk-behind conveyors that travel at low speeds.
  • Monitor conveyor operations during loading activities to ensure steady, safe, and efficient transfer of materials from rail cars to trucks.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks on conveyor equipment during downtime, including changing lines, filters, and oil as directed.
  • Work outdoors all day in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
  • Walk up and down ramps and in and out of trailers throughout the shift, handling physically demanding tasks on a continuous basis.
  • Follow all yard safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to site rules.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate loading, unloading, and equipment movement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around rail cars, trailers, and conveyor equipment.
  • Adapt to either assigned shift (early morning or daytime) and remain flexible to shift changes based on operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • Recent experience working outside all day in a physically demanding role.
  • Ability to perform very physical work, including frequent walking on ramps and in and out of trailers.
  • Some mechanical experience, including comfort with basic maintenance tasks such as changing lines, filters, and oil on equipment.
  • General labor experience in environments such as yard work, outdoor labor, or similar settings.
  • Ability to work either a 5:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. shift or a 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. shift and remain flexible to shift changes.
  • Reliability in bringing necessary food, water, and personal items to remain on-site for the duration of the shift.
  • Comfort working 100% outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and use work boots and other required attire appropriately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with yard work or outdoor logistics environments.
  • Exposure to forklift operations or other material-handling equipment.
  • Experience working around rail cars, trailers, or similar industrial settings.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for simple mechanical issues on conveyor or similar equipment.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn how to operate and move mobile conveyor systems.

This is a Contract position based out of Flint, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
