Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler supports a fast-paced manufacturing operation by pulling and transporting parts to the assembly team and assembling subcomponents and finished products.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and transport parts and materials from inventory to the assembly area to support daily production needs.
  • Lift and maneuver components weighing 50 lbs or more (40 lbs independently) as part of the assembly process.
  • Perform cycle counting and support inventory accuracy through good inventory control practices.
  • Follow 5S and housekeeping standards to maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and use equipment correctly to prevent injuries and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Participate in training and development with the goal of progressing into a unit builder role.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience as a material handler, assembler, or in a similar manufacturing or production role.
  • Experience operating stand-up material handling equipment or similar industrial equipment.
  • Proven ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in an assembly environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, and basic schematics.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, including the ability to measure, fit, and assemble metal components.
  • Good inventory skills, including previous experience with cycle counting and material tracking.
  • Ability to operate an overhead crane or willingness to learn and safely perform crane operations.
  • Capability to lift 50 lbs or more (40 lbs independently) and perform frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • High school diploma or GED, or willingness to obtain a GED within the required timeframe.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with 5S principles and working in a clean, organized manufacturing facility.
  • Experience assembling metal products or heat exchangers is a plus.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and apply basic math in measurements.
  • Comfort using an overhead crane, hand and power tools, and other production equipment.
  • Willingness to participate in a structured training program and grow into a unit builder role.
  • Interest in continuing education, including completing a GED program if not already obtained.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position with core hours from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with the possibility of working until 4:30 PM based on production needs. The role is based on a large, well-organized manufacturing floor where sections are clearly labeled by materials and production areas. The facility is very neat, clean, and controlled, with a strong emphasis on 5S practices. Work is physically active, involving regular lifting of 50 lbs or more, climbing, standing, walking, sitting, and reaching for extended periods. Employees frequently use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and overhead cranes while assembling metal products and heat exchangers in a fast-paced production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
