Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler supports a GMP food manufacturing environment by accurately handling, weighing, staging, and moving raw materials and finished products. This role uses computer systems, ERP tools, barcode scanners, and material handling equipment, including forklifts, to ensure precise compounding and packaging of liquids and powders according to detailed formulas and work orders. The position requires consistent attention to detail, adherence to safety and GMP standards, and the ability to work across different departments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Use computer systems and related documentation to support material handling, inventory transactions, and work order processing.
  • Fill liquids and powders into tanks, following detailed formulas and batch instructions.
  • Use scales to obtain accurate measurements of liquids and raw materials, ensuring all weights match specified formulas.
  • Select appropriate tanks based on manufacturing requirements and batch size.
  • Pick required raw materials from the raw material warehouse according to formulas and work order instructions.
  • Scan raw materials using handheld barcode scanners to verify lot numbers and quantities for accuracy.
  • Stage raw materials and add them to tanks in the correct sequence and quantity according to manufacturing instructions.
  • Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts, as needed, to move raw materials and finished product around the production floor and warehouse.
  • Receive incoming product using a forklift and process it into inventory using ERP and scanning tools.
  • Retrieve raw materials from the warehouse and deliver them to the compounding area based on compounder requirements.
  • Return unused raw materials to the warehouse after compounding, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
  • Conduct cycle counting on raw materials to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Fill and pack orders according to sales orders, ensuring accurate weight, correct sifter screens, and proper labels are used.
  • Follow all GMP, safety guidelines, and procedures, including lockout procedures and respirator protection when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with food manufacturing standards.
  • Participate in cross-training and support different departments as needed to meet production demands.
  • Pay close attention to detail when reviewing batch records and documentation to prevent errors and ensure product quality.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a warehouse, logistics, or material handling environment.
  • Ability to operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Proficiency using ERP systems and handheld barcode scanners for inventory and material tracking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, including handling large blenders and material containers.
  • Prior experience in compounding, blending, batching, or machine operation in a food or GMP environment.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing batch records, formulas, and labels.
  • Comfort working in a GMP environment, including exposure to food ingredients and various smells.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GMP, forklift safety, respirator protection, and lockout procedures.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to handle written compounding and manufacturing materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in food manufacturing, chemical handling, or general labor in a production setting.
  • Familiarity with RF scanners for inventory and material tracking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with compounders, production staff, and warehouse personnel.
  • Flexibility to be cross-trained and assist in multiple departments as operational needs change.
  • Comfort working with sifter screens, labels, and packaging equipment.
  • Willingness to follow detailed formulas and written instructions precisely.

Work Environment

This role operates in a GMP-regulated food manufacturing environment that emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and strict process control. The work involves handling liquids, powders, and raw materials in a production setting with tanks, blenders, scales, and packaging equipment. Employees regularly use forklifts (stand-up and sit-down), ERP systems, handheld barcode scanners, and RF scanners to move and track materials. The schedule offers multiple shift options, including a first shift, a second shift running Monday through Thursday, and an extended weekend shift from Friday through Sunday. The environment requires adherence to GMP attire and hygiene standards, including the use of items such as hair nets and beard nets, as well as compliance with respirator protection and other safety protocols as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
