Join our team at Renton Technical College! We are seeking a passionate Instructor and Program Director who will guide our students as they prepare for a career in Massage Therapy as a practioner. TheFull-Time Massage Therapy Instructor and Program Directoris responsible forteaching and continually improving a state approved curriculum for the massage therapy program. This includes teaching the core course of hands-on massage techniques, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, path physiology, ethics, charting, communication, employment, and ethics. Faculty will prepare students to pass the MBLEx licensing exam while becoming trauma informed, patient centered practitioners with high entry level skills. This position will also supervise a required student clinic and externship during the third quarter. The instructor will collaborate with a team of adjunct faculty to ensure that students meet program and course learning objectives.Other professional responsibilities include maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students, serving on departmental and college committees, serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee, participating in professional improvement activities, maintain accreditation, and other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Health and Human Services.
This is a full-time, tenure track position that is responsible for 40 hours per week of instruction and related professional duties in our Massage Therapy program. Teaching assignment may include in-person, online, or hybrid courses.This position is represented by the Renton Federations of Teachers (RFT) union. The salary for this position is$94,503 - $112,865 annually.New hires are initially placed at step one ($94,503) on the salary schedule. - Effectively teach the adopted core curriculum for the Massage Therapy / Practitioner program.
- Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities and individual student learning needs.
- Responsible for the teaching and learning process of students in the laboratory and clinic settings.
- Lead the development and updating of the curriculum and program changes based on current industry standards, including ensuring that online materials on Canvas meet Title II Accessibility Standards.
- Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning objectives to include individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests.
- Maintain appropriate student records an submit them in a timely manner as required.
- Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program’s advisory committee. Enhance advisory committee representation by developing close ties with program partners and the business community.
- Maintain and ensure program performance and competency standard are met.
- Serve on department and college committees. Participate in professional improvement activities and engage in tenure committee and Dean recommendations.
- Maintain office hours convenient to students.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

- Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- An Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Applied Science Transfer (AAST) degree or in progress of obtaining is preferred.
- Three years pf experience in massage therapy is required. Teaching experience or willingness to engage in professional-technical teacher training courses is preferred.
- Current Washington State Massage Therapy Practitioner License- Unencumbered.
- Have or aquire an AMTA or ABMP membership.
- Required proficiency with clinical/treatment-based massage.
- Completion of college level course work in anatomy, physiology or kinesiology is preferred.
- Two years of recent experience in the practice of Swedish massage is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct students in the theory and proactive of massage therapy as described in the program curriculum an approved by the Washington State Board of Massage.
- Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment a current healthcare provider CPR certain and First Aid Certificate.
- Expert proficiency in Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Pin & Stretch, trigger point release and proficiency in other diverse massage techniques such as Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, Massage Cupping, Craniosacral Therapy, positional release techniques, manual lymphatic drainage, etc.
- Experience with client-intake process and client charting with wellness forms and SOAP notes for relaxation and medical massage.
- Knowledge of Traditional Asian Bodywork massage applications with a focus on massage cupping, shiatsu, and acupressure with willingness to learn how to teach these modalities.
- Ability to center student learning around client-centered, trauma-informed care.
- Ability to center student learning and classroom management in classroom and lab within the ethical framework and practices as per the Code of Ethics and Standards of practice of AMTA, ABMP, NCBTMB and Washington State Law.
- An interest in innovative curriculum and delivery. Experience using various teaching strategies that address different learning styles.
- Experience with Canvas (Learning Management System) is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, colleagues and community partners.
- Knowledge of, understanding of, and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours include instruction Monday – Friday, with evening and weekend work as required.The position is active in nature and requires standing, lecturing and demonstration of processes in a lab environment. This includes massage demonstrations and assisting students with massage demonstrations using proper body-mechanics. The work includes some lifting and moving of massage equipment and supplies which can be up to 50 pounds. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events.
