Are you a creative individual with a passion for marketing, content creation, and community engagement? The City of Highland Village is seeking a Marketing Intern to join our Marketing & Communications team. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting campaigns for Parks and Recreation programs, promoting City parks and community events, creating digital and social media content, and assisting with website updates. Interns will collaborate on meaningful projects that enhance community awareness while building practical skills in marketing, design, and public sector communications.

Learning Objectives:

Develop Marketing Campaign Skills
Gain hands-on experience creating and executing campaigns for Parks and Recreation programs, including Camp Highland Village.

Strengthen Community Promotion & Branding
Learn to promote City parks and amenities through engaging, brand-consistent content.

Enhance Event Marketing & Content Creation
Support events like Celebrate Highland Village through photography, graphics, and social media content.

Gain Nonprofit Marketing Experience
Assist with promotions for events like the Unity Luncheon and support nonprofit messaging.

Develop Social Media Strategy Skills
Create, schedule, and analyze content to improve engagement and reach.

Build Graphic Design Skills
Design marketing materials using tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.

Learn Website & Accessibility Best Practices
Assist with website updates and redesign while learning WCAG 2.0 standards.

Develop Communication & Project Management Skills
Collaborate with teams, manage projects, and meet deadlines in a professional environment.

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Marketing or related field
  • Professor/Instructor recommendation preferred
  • Excellent working knowledge of computer software and social media applications
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, City employees and communicate clearly and tactfully with co-workers
  • Ability to attend work regularly and learn new technical skills quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit four hours per day

Special Requirements:

  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record as defined by City policy
