Marine Surveyor

Role Purpose

To survey ships against standards and issue reports and other documents as per company requirements.

Key Responsibilities

SECTION 18 : SHIPS IN SERVICE SURVEYORS

General

A Ships in Service Surveyor is an expert acting in the Fleet Management Classification and Statutory

Certification activities as defined in the Ships in Service Surveyor Certification Scheme. He is always under

the supervision of a SSQM (Ships in Service Quality Manager).

  • Carry out surveys, draw up and send relevant reports to the SSQM, in compliance with the FM and
  • inland specific procedures,
  • Assess the conditions necessary for carrying out surveys to the expected quality level, against his
  • own abilities, availability and the conditions on board,
  • Surveyors should request from their SSQM advice on any questions they deem beyond their abilities,
  • Ensure the quality of their services,
  • Provide information and support necessary to CDs, NS operations managers, SSQMs, MOCs and
  • MOs as concerns missions involving them.

Authorities

  • Surveyors carry out the surveys they are qualified for as defined in their valid Ships in Service Surveyor
  • Certificate,
  • Surveyors may decline a survey whenever they deem the necessary conditions are not met,
  • Take technical decisions on board, within the limitations of surveyor responsibilities, as set out in the
  • Operational Authority Limitations Table (for reference see A2.2),
  • Sign their own reports,
  • Issue certificates and attestations. Attestations are issued upon agreement of MO (Sale, damage)or MOC (all others)

Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • MSc or BSc degree or equivalent in marine engineering or naval architecture
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced / Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must be able to travel by car, plane, ship and launch
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, including pilot ladders
  • Must be able to crawl tanks and other enclosed spaces.
