Manufacturing Operations Manager (VIM)

Overview:

We are looking for a new VIM Manager to lead state of the art VIDP (VIM) and VAR Premium Melting Facility for critical aerospace applications. The role reports to the General Manager of the manufacturing plant, and Lead 24/7 Operation with Melt & Materials Supervisors.

Responsibilities:

• This role is responsible for driving a world-class operation by fostering a collaborative culture, ensuring elite quality standards, and meeting customer delivery commitments through operational excellence.
• Lead and develop a 24/7 operation coordinating the workforce to ensure a safe, cost-effective, and world-class Premium Melting Facility.
• Foster a collaborative, team-based culture by facilitating cross-functional teams, communicating corporate values, and providing the guidance necessary for employees to understand the "why" behind the "how."
• Execute and monitor all aspects of VIDP (VIM) and VAR operations, ensuring production standards for quality, yield, and productivity are met while fulfilling customer delivery commitments.
• Enforce and audit detailed SOPs, 5S standards, and fixed practice procedures to improve process reliability and maintain a well-organized work environment.
• Drive continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives to increase production volume, reduce delays, and optimize equipment effectiveness.
• Manage logistical supplies and raw materials to sustain uninterrupted production while controlling material costs and inventory investment.
• Ensure 100% compliance with Health & Safety, building safety and quality into every step of the manufacturing process.
• Coordinate operational schedules and team assignments, using data-driven insights to prioritize tasks and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Lead capital projects and automation enhancements, overseeing the implementation of manufacturing standards and disciplined problem-solving methods.
• Maintain open lines of communication by providing regular performance feedback to all employees and addressing concerns in a timely, professional manner.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of operations leadership experience (e.g., Department Manager or Superintendent) specifically within a vacuum melting, remelt (VAR), or VIM shop environment.
• At least 3 years of "front-line" supervisory experience in a hot metal or steel melt shop, with a proven track record of managing a 24/7 shift workforce.
• B.S. in Engineering or Metallurgy strongly preferred; a High School Diploma is required, supplemented by equivalent professional job experience.
• Mastery of Lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies, specifically applied to steel production to improve reliability and volume.
• Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to use and analyze data to prioritize tasks and make disciplined operational decisions.
• Strong technical proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and a working knowledge of automation in the steel industry.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, facilitate team-based projects, and provide objective performance evaluations.
• Demonstrated experience in Capital Project management and the development of manufacturing standards and disciplined practices.
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to work overtime and weekends to interact with the shift workforce.
