What you will be doing:

The position of Manufacturing Engineer works mainly within the operations group supporting operations and production requirements. The ME II will also support Design and Project Engineering efforts translating requirements into production implementation activities. Based on design requirements defined through drawings and specifications, the ME II plans and prepares manufacturing documentation according to Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) practices, including Visual Work Instructions (VWI). The ME II determines equipment, tooling plans, and cellular manufacturing concepts for their assigned area of responsibility. The ME II will originate and develop new manufacturing and tooling concepts, provides data to Estimating for quoting customer requests, prepare reports showing areas for improvements, run improvement projects and initiate efforts in the development of new manufacturing and production techniques.

The Manufacturing Manager will define specific responsibilities for each Manufacturing Engineer in accordance with their area of expertise. Responsibilities will be reviewed at least once annually preferably near/during the performance review period or as organizational changes occur.

The ME II plans and carries out policies and procedures for manufacturing operation efforts utilized in the manufacturing areas.

What you'll need to be successful (must haves):

Responsible for and will be the focal point for all technical aspects of assigned project(s) in the following categories:

Compliance with customer/product procurement specification

Validate the manufacturing process meets all customer and internal requirements.

Initiate and support product manufacturability

Review and support planning document releases

Advanced Quality Planning (AQP)

Tooling requirements

Visual Work Instructions (VWI)

Meeting cost targets

Eliminating waste from manufacturing processes

Responsible for clear and concise work instructions of detail parts, sub-assemblies, and top assemblies.

Apply operation time standards as required, develop Work Combination Sheets (WCS).

Ensure the manufacturability of detail parts, sub-assemblies, top assemblies as applicable to projects/programs.

Potential liaison to provide technical assistance between the manufacturing and customer cognizant engineering.

May be assigned to work with developing supplier processes and help correct supplier issues.

Assist in the initial manufacturing cycle of all new detail parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI).

Follow up on the effectiveness of manufacturing processes.

Identify, implement and drive cost reduction ideas. Assigned to special cost reduction initiatives as part of a muti-discipline team.

Works on or leads a Production Support Team and partners with the other team members to address manufacturing issues.

Performs Root Cause and Preventive Actions to eliminate causes for nonconforming products.

Perform, document and validate component, assembly, and/or system processes such as machining, forming, stamping, heat treating, and chemical processing of the following materials:

Titanium

Inconel

Aluminum

Stainless Steel

01 and D2 tooling steel

Ensure that all engineering changes are documented and implemented.

Coordinate and support the design of tooling as it applies to the manufacturing/assembly process.

Develop Sound Manufacturing Processes Based Upon Company Capabilities.

Review production drawing(s) for technical content.

Make recommendations and offer credible solutions to product, tooling and processes.

Provides data and relevant information to the quoting process.

Perform related work as required.

Follow all Company policies and procedures.

Essentials:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment. OR M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment
  • Must possess basic knowledge of NDT and geometric tolerance.
  • Knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic.
  • Experience with fast-paced manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal processes (welding, forming, NDT, etc), geometric tolerances and aerospace materials is preferred.
  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, etc. Ability to prepare presentations and speak / present material to large groups of employees.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving many concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as averages, summations, standard deviations, statistical trends, proportions and percentages.
  • Other Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work within a team and independently.
  • Knowledge of aircraft ECS ducting preferred.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials preferred.
  • Knowledge of forming, welding, machining and heat treating preferred.
