In a nutshell
The Managing Editor plays a key role in maintaining and evolving the brand voice of Design Hotels through high-quality writing, editing, and storytelling. This role connects our brand to the creative travel community on one hand and our member hotels on the other, while supporting a wide range of creative and marketing initiatives.
Integral to The Studio, our in-house creative agency, the Managing Editor contributes to positioning and strategy, copywriting, and content development for client-facing projects, translating creative concepts into clear, compelling narratives. Working closely with internal teams, this role ensures consistency, quality, and cultural relevance across all editorial output.
 

 

Tasks & Responsibilities
•    Research, write, and edit engaging content about member hotels, brand campaigns, events, and activations across all channels
•    Carry out Originals interviews with member hotel owners and translate them into engaging stories 
•    Execute copywriting and support strategic development for The Studio, contributing to client deliverables including positioning documents, tone of voice guidelines, website copy, and more 
•    Translate briefs and creative concepts into compelling storytelling across formats (digital, print, presentations, social, etc.) 
•    Develop content for brand activations, campaigns, sales events, and partnerships, ensuring a consistent and engaging editorial presence 
•    Prepare well-crafted presentations and copy decks for internal stakeholders and senior leadership 
•    Support partnerships and collaborations by developing narratives that enhance brand visibility and cultural relevance 
•    Safeguard, refine, and evolve the Design Hotels tone of voice, ensuring consistency across all brand and marketing channels 
•    Provide editorial guidance and feedback to maintain high-quality output across departments
 

Span of Communication 
•    Reports directly to the Editorial Director 
•    Works closely with The Studio team, including the Creative Director, Art Director, Project Manager, and Designers 
•    Collaborates with the Global Brand Communications team and Sales team to align on messaging and content needs 
•    Interfaces with member hotels and external freelancers when required 
•    Engages with senior management as needed on presentations and campaign-related content

•    Contribute to The Studio’s output, with a primary focus on copywriting, editorial development, and storytelling quality 
•    Deliver content across brand, campaign, editorial, and digital projects 
•    Translate strategic and creative direction into engaging narratives 
•    Stay informed on trends in hospitality, design, fashion, and lifestyle to inform relevant content 
•    Support the development of briefs, presentations, and content frameworks from an editorial perspective 
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure cohesive output
•    Identify opportunities to strengthen storytelling, tone of voice, and editorial consistency

•    Strong storytelling and copywriting skills, with the ability to adapt tone across formats and audiences 
•    Detail-oriented with a strong sense of editorial quality and accuracy 
•    Clear understanding of brand voice and how to apply it consistently across channels 
•    Ability to translate creative ideas into engaging, effective messaging 
•    Collaborative mindset with strong communication and interpersonal skills 
•    Confidence in presenting ideas and editorial concepts to stakeholders 
•    Interest in culture, design, travel, and lifestyle trends 


 

Experience & Mindset

Required
•    Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related field 
•    5+ years work experience in content, editorial, or copywriting roles 
•    Demonstrated strength in writing, editing, and storytelling across formats 
•    Exceptional English communication skills, both written and verbal 


Preferred
•    Exceptional German communication skills, both written and verbal 
•    Experience in a creative agency or in-house creative studio environment 
•    Background in hospitality, travel, lifestyle, or design-led brands 
•    Experience working on campaigns, brand activations, or multi-channel content 
•    Strong presentation and conceptual thinking skills
