Our client is a rapidly growing developer and operator of utility scale energy storage projects, focused on deploying large battery systems to support grid reliability and renewable integration. The company is backed by institutional capital and is scaling a multi-market portfolio of battery energy storage assets.


Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Managing Director, Project Finance to join its leadership team at a critical stage of growth. This role is designed to expand senior leadership capacity within the project finance function, enabling the company to originate, structure, and execute multiple complex financings in parallel across its rapidly scaling energy storage portfolio. The Managing Director will operate as a senior leader within the team, working closely with existing leadership to drive transaction execution, capital formation, and broader financing strategy.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the origination, structuring, and execution of all project finance transactions across the company’s portfolio, including debt, tax equity, and structured equity financings
  • Take primary responsibility for financing strategy and execution across a large and growing pipeline of utility-scale BESS projects
  • Structure and negotiate complex financing solutions, including all commercial terms with lenders, tax equity investors, and counterparties
  • Lead all aspects of transaction execution, including financial modeling, diligence, structuring, tax analysis, documentation, approvals processes, and closing
  • Manage multiple transactions concurrently, ensuring high-quality execution across all internal and external workstreams
  • Build and maintain relationships with banks, tax equity providers, institutional investors, and financing partners
  • Lead and manage a team of project finance professionals, providing oversight, mentorship, and execution support
  • Coordinate closely with development, M&A, legal, accounting, engineering, and asset management teams to advance transactions
  • Support the economic evaluation of project acquisition and development opportunities, including valuation, structuring, and return analysis
  • Partner with the CFO and executive leadership on corporate-level financing activities, including platform equity raises, development capital, and LC / credit facilities
  • Prepare and present materials to internal stakeholders, including senior management, as well as external investors and lenders
  • Oversee diligence processes, third-party consultants, and transaction documentation across all financing activities
  • Ensure alignment across tax, accounting, legal, and technical workstreams throughout the transaction lifecycle
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of the company’s capital markets strategy, including new financing structures and approaches
  • Help build and scale the project finance function, including processes, infrastructure, and execution capabilities


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy project finance, structured finance, or capital markets
  • Proven track record of executing complex project financings, including debt and tax equity
  • Deep expertise in tax equity structures, capital stacks, and transaction execution
  • Strong relationships with lenders, tax equity providers, and financial institutions
  • Experience leading transactions from origination through closing and approvals processes
  • Experience working across both project-level and corporate-level financing activities
  • Ability to operate at a senior, strategic level while remaining hands-on in execution
  • Experience managing or leading teams within a high-performing environment
  • Experience in a high-growth or scaling platform environment strongly preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
  • Ability to work in the office four days a week
