Distribution Engineering seeks a highly motivated management professional to join its Engineering & Analysis team within the System & Program Engineering, Analysis and Reporting (SPEAR) Department.
The Engineering Manager will advance strategic initiatives and ad hoc assignments through direct technical contributions and by leading teams, with a primary focus on reducing cable failure driven risk across the electric distribution system. This role supports improvements in public safety, operational excellence, and customer experience by translating system data and engineering insight into actionable solutions.
The successful candidate will lead the development and application of engineering and analytical solutions that capture and quantify steady state and transient system conditions, support secondary system event response with a focus on root cause determination, and expand the tools and analytical capabilities used to guide operational and programmatic decisions. The role requires regular interaction with bargaining unit employees, engineers, and multiple levels of management, and demands clear, concise communication of complex technical findings.
This position requires a demonstrated ability to engineer, plan, schedule, and control moderate to complex engineering projects, programs, and analytical efforts, along with strong written, oral, and presentation skills. Candidates should be comfortable leading teams, setting priorities, and delivering high quality work products under time and operational constraints.
Preferred qualifications include experience with data visualization and analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), software programming or scripting, and familiarity with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) data and applications. A bachelors degree in engineering is required; project management experience and electronics design experience are preferred.
Core Responsibilities- Lead and directly supervise engineers responsible for secondary distribution analysis and programs, providing technical and managerial oversight to ensure timely delivery of highquality work that supports safe operations, regulatory compliance, and effective crossfunctional execution.
- Establish and sustain a professional, safe, and inclusive work environment aligned with the Companys Way We Work Principles, Standards of Business Conduct, and all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), EEO, and security requirements.
- Ensure rigorous application of safe work practices, and effective implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for all work activities under managerial direction.
- Oversee and perform root cause analyses of secondary system events, including manhole explosions, fires, and electrical shocks, through field investigations, data collection, research, and analytical modeling; prepare executive summaries and formal reports with actionable mitigation and prevention strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate PSCmandated inspections, audits, and Quality Assurance programs, identifying improvement opportunities and developing forwardlooking prevention, risk reduction, and compliance strategies.
- Conduct and oversee engineering studies and datadriven analyses of secondary distribution system performance, using database extracts, calculations, and analytical tools to assess conditions, identify risks, and recommend system improvements.
- Review, prepare, and approve engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and standards, and perform costbenefit analyses of alternative designs, programs, and equipment, including recommendations that meet the highest environmental and sustainability standards.
- Lead laboratory, field, and analytical evaluations of new designs, vendor solutions, and emerging technologies, including development of test plans that simulate steadystate, transient, environmental, and operational conditions.
- Provide technical guidance and engineering judgment to Electric Operations, supporting operational, maintenance, condition monitoring, and emergency response activities involving secondary distribution assets.
- Represent the Company externally and internally, maintaining technical expertise through industry engagement, participation in technical committees and benchmarking activities, and providing engineering leadership during system emergencies and critical field conditions.
