Hormel Foods – Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (1st Shift)
Location: Alma, KS
Shift: 1st Shift (Monday–Friday, 5AM-1:30PM; weekend work as required)
Wage Rate: $24.75–$34.50 per hour
We are seeking motivated, skilled individuals to join our Maintenance team. Ideal candidates show strong problem-solving abilities, reliability, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. This role plays a critical part in keeping production equipment running efficiently and safely in our food processing environment.
Responsibilities
- Tear down, set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all plant equipment with minimal supervision.
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair processing equipment using industrial maintenance skills.
- Monitor equipment performance and make adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Assist with system modifications to improve equipment operation and support plant goals.
- Utilize the Asset Management System (EAM).
- Provide training to less experienced maintenance personnel.
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous mechanical experience required.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail and ability to use computer systems/software.
- Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in temperatures ranging from -10°F to 100°F.
- Ability to use powered equipment such as forklifts and hi-lifts.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Must be 18 year of age or older.
Preferred:
- Preferred experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, and hydraulics in an industrial manufacturing facility.
- Experience with refrigeration equipment, boilers, compressors, HVAC, fire suppression, or water treatment a plus.
Work Environment
- Exposure to cold temperatures (35–40°F on production floor).
- Wet, slippery floors and mechanical equipment.
- Exposure to chemicals used in sanitation.
- Loud noise; PPE required including hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
