The Show Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and visual quality of facilities across Universal Studios Hollywood. This position supports a diverse environment including carnival-style game operations, restaurant facilities, retail locations, and entertainment workspaces. This role requires a highly skilled, versatile technician with a strong preventive maintenance mindset, the ability to troubleshoot a wide range of facility issues, and the professionalism to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance on buildings, structures, and operational areas throughout the park
  • Maintain and repair elements across carnival games, food & beverage locations, retail spaces, and entertainment venues
  • Respond to maintenance requests including general repairs and plumbing issues in a timely manner
  • Execute work orders involving carpentry, masonry, tile, drywall, flooring, and general construction
  • Install and repair interior and exterior building components, including walls, flooring systems, and finishes
  • Support new construction, remodels, and special projects as assigned
  • Perform shop work and fabrication for custom or specialty projects
  • Set up, relocate, and dismantle equipment, displays, and operational materials as needed
  • Ensure all work is completed in alignment with safety standards, building codes, and company procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and identify opportunities for preventive maintenance improvements
  • Deliver exceptional service to internal partners and external guests in a professional and courteous manner

Core Competencies

  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in entertainment, hospitality, theme park, retail, or restaurant environments
  • Strong working knowledge of carnival/amusement-style equipment maintenance and high-traffic facility repair needs
  • Hands-on experience with carpentry, drywall, flooring, and general building systems
  • Ability to diagnose issues and perform repairs across multiple disciplines (mechanical, structural, basic plumbing, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Preventive Maintenance Mindset – Proactively identifies and addresses issues before they impact operations
  • Adaptability – Comfortable working across diverse environments (games, restaurants, retail, entertainment spaces)
  • Team Collaboration – Works effectively with cross-functional teams while maintaining accountability

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 3-5 years’ experience in general carpentry and construction including framing, drywall, trim work, masonry, and tile experience required. Three to five years’ commercial roofing experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to perform set up and operation of table saw, radial saw, band saw, planer, high reach lift, concrete saw, and jack hammer
  • Knowledge of applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment
  • Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall-protection, and other non-traditional work-environments
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written on a technician level

 

Pay Rate Starting at $32.78 per hour
