Maintenance Technician II or Senior – Water Conservation/Irrigation Division

About the Job:As a Maintenance Technician, you will perform essential construction, maintenance, and repair duties, focusing on irrigation, mechanical, and electrical systems. This position requires experience in managing and repairing commercial irrigation systems, knowledge of large commercial landscape maintenance practices, and the ability to respond to emergency repairs.

Depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected, this position will be filled at either the Maintenance Technician II or Senior Maintenance Technician level.

Hiring range for the Maintenance Technician II position:$21.78 - $26.14 Hourly

Hiring range for the Maintenance Technician Senior position:$25.87 - $31.06 Hourly

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.


Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Provide maintenance, repair, and operational oversight of assigned park irrigation systems
  • Provide support to Irrigation Specialist with service calls and respond to service calls independently
  • Observe the effectiveness of contracted maintenance on the Mesa Springs Greenway and Cimarron Interchange, including mowing/edging/trimming, herbicide spraying, fertilization and bed maintenance, and report back to supervisor
  • Ensure the general cleanliness of work areas assigned; protect the health, safety, and well-being of park(s) visitors
  • Maintain operation records; file reports as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Smart controllers, flow sensors, master valves, mechanical joints, PVC, sprinkler heads
  • Hydraulics - methods of identifying and repairing different types of piping.
  • Low-voltage electrical circuits and troubleshooting methods
  • Maintenance methods and techniques, including equipment and materials
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office
Ability to:
  • Work independently, and in a team environment
  • Use various types of diagnostic equipment or tools to troubleshoot wiring typically in irrigation and low-voltage electrical systems
  • Safely and effectively operate hand tools, motorized excavation equipment, and vehicles
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within area of assignment
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Maintenance Technician II:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Maintenance Technician Senior:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

Maintenance Technician Senior:
  • Actively possess at least one certification from the following:

  • Irrigation Association – Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT)

  • National Association Landscape Professionals NALP or ALCC (Irrigation Technician cert)

  • American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) Backflow Tester License

  • Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA)

  • Other similar certification(s) may be considered

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires the ability to work independently; sit, stand, walk and climb for extended periods and lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds occasionally; audiovisual acuity is also require
