Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs general and routine maintenance and repair duties throughout the facility to ensure that the building, production equipment, and support systems remain safe, reliable, and fully operational.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of maintenance tasks as assigned by the Facility Manager to support daily operations.
  • Oversee, direct, and train Maintenance Helpers, providing guidance and ensuring work quality and safety.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing subcontractors working on-site to ensure timely and compliant completion of work.
  • Move and set up office furniture and computer equipment as needed to support facility and office changes.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on rooftop HVAC units, including changing filters, greasing bearings, and replacing belts.
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive, update, and complete work tickets in a timely manner.
  • Grease and service forklifts, pallet jacks, exhaust fans, trash compactors, and cardboard balers.
  • Lubricate rollers, hinges, and chains on overhead doors to ensure smooth and safe operation.
  • Clean out exhaust ducts on engravers to maintain proper ventilation and equipment performance.
  • Clean and disinfect icemakers on a regular schedule to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on powder coat equipment to ensure consistent and reliable operation.
  • Maintain and repair production equipment, including but not limited to CNC lasers, CNC press brakes, CNC drills, and saws.
  • Rebuild and repair equipment during off-season storage periods to prepare for the next use cycle.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and material storage area.
  • Perform snow removal and apply ice melt to sidewalks, pedestrian doors, emergency exits, and overhead doors to maintain safe access.
  • Operate utility vehicles with sander and snowplow attachments, as well as forklifts and scissor lifts, as needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform carpentry, drywall repair and finishing, painting, and floor repair as needed in the facility.
  • Replace door hardware and locksets to maintain building security and functionality.
  • Follow written and oral directives, documenting work as required and communicating status updates clearly.
  • Work independently to carry out assigned tasks while also leading and directing helpers when needed.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies while performing maintenance duties.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned to support facility operations.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of two years of training in facility maintenance or two years of hands-on experience in facility maintenance and repair.
  • Strong trades skills and mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, compressed air, hydraulics, HVAC, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, security, and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair tasks on production equipment, HVAC systems, electrical and mechanical systems, compressed air, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.
  • Proficiency in the safe and efficient use of a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment including table saws, miter saws, chop saws, drill presses, portable lifts, power-operated fastening equipment, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to operate a utility vehicle with a sander and snowplow, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Experience with carpentry, drywall repair and finishing, painting, and floor repair.
  • Ability to replace door hardware and locksets accurately and securely.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, Excel data entry, and use of CMMS software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to lead and direct helpers when needed.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and equipment, crawl, crouch, reach, balance, stoop, grasp, kneel, walk, push, pull, lift up to 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, and perform repetitive motions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, or facilities management.
  • At least two years of combined training and hands-on work in facility maintenance and repair environments.
  • Experience working with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for ticket management and preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Background in fabrication environments and familiarity with CNC laser and CNC press brake equipment.
  • Exposure to wastewater systems and related facility support equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a small team while also managing individual responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work accurately and on time.

Work Environment

This role is based in a temperature-controlled, modern facility built in 2017–2018, with additional expansions completed and further growth planned, including an additional building. The environment is generally very clean in many areas of the facility and supports high-quality production operations. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will work as part of a small maintenance team of approximately three people, including leadership, which allows for close collaboration and clear communication. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed boots, long pants, a t-shirt, and safety glasses. The facility provides dedicated independent workspaces for technicians and uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and preventive maintenance. You will regularly work with a variety of tools and equipment, including hand and power tools, saws, drill presses, portable lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts, and utility vehicles with snowplow and sander attachments. Seasonal conditions may require outdoor work for snow removal and ice control, while most other work occurs inside the climate-controlled facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.67 - $25.00/hr.
