Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports a highly automated manufacturing facility by performing both electrical and mechanical maintenance on injection molding machines, punch presses, robotics, and related equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production machinery and automation systems to minimize downtime and ensure safe, reliable operation across a wide range of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues on injection molding machinery, punch presses, robotic welders, and robotic arms.
  • Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, heater bands, linear actuators, rollers, bearings, presses, and related mechanical systems to perform repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform wiring and troubleshooting on 110–480V single and 3-phase circuits, including motors, motor control drives, and VFDs.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor edits on PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi), including ladder logic fault finding, start/stop changes, and sensor-related issues, without performing full programming.
  • Reset faults and replace sensors and other control components to restore equipment to proper operation.
  • Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to identify issues and plan repairs.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to execute preventive maintenance (PMs), manage work orders, and document maintenance activities to reduce production downtime.
  • Support general automation systems and controls, including conveyors, water chillers, compressors, and related support equipment.
  • Apply working knowledge of 24VDC control circuits and 120/230/480V single and 3-phase systems in troubleshooting and repair tasks.
  • Perform basic maintenance on HVAC, compressors, water chillers, plumbing, and related facility systems as needed.
  • Use measurement and diagnostic tools such as calipers, electrical meters, pressure reading devices, and temperature gauges to assess equipment condition and verify repairs.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and all safety procedures while working on electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work, support production needs, and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and recommending long-term solutions.
  • Optionally perform welding and fabricating tasks to repair or modify equipment and components, when qualified.
  • Maintain basic documentation and records using Microsoft Word and Excel as required.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in an electrical and mechanical maintenance role, with a minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills for both electrical and mechanical systems, with approximately a 50/50 split between mechanical and electrical work.
  • Hands-on experience with 3-phase motors, motor control drives, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Ability to perform basic PLC troubleshooting and minor ladder logic edits on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi PLCs, including start/stop modifications and fault identification, without full programming.
  • Strong working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with 24VDC control circuits and 120/230/480V single and 3-phase electrical circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical prints, and blueprints.
  • Experience with injection molding equipment and injection mold processes.
  • Punch press maintenance or repair experience, with strong preference for large press exposure.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a CMMS for preventive maintenance, work orders, and maintenance tracking.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Understanding and application of lockout/tagout (LOTO) and industrial safety practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience repairing rollers, bearings, presses, and related components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with Kawasaki and Arburg equipment or similar robotic and injection molding systems.
  • Any hands-on robotics experience, including robotic welders and robotic arms, is highly valued.
  • Preferred experience using calipers, electrical meters, pressure reading devices, and temperature gauges for troubleshooting and verification.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with HVAC systems, air compressors, water chillers, plumbing, and general facility utilities.
  • Experience in general industrial automation environments and controls.
  • Welding and fabricating skills are a major plus, though not required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot ladder logic proficiently at the maintenance level (fault finding and minor edits).
