Job Description

The Maintenance Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of plant machinery in a food manufacturing environment by using both electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment. This role focuses on minimizing downtime through timely repairs, performing preventive and predictive maintenance, and supporting production teams with technical guidance while adhering to strict safety, cleanliness, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant machinery using both electrical and mechanical skills to ensure continuous and reliable operation.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance procedures on production and facility equipment to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Control equipment downtime by completing needed repairs and parts replacements promptly and effectively.
  • Fabricate and modify repair parts by machining items to specifications when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including cylinders, valves, pumps, and related components.
  • Work with AC and DC electrical systems, including 3-phase power, to safely diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to perform repairs and installations.
  • Support and collaborate with production workers by providing mechanical maintenance information, explaining routine techniques, and responding to technical questions and requests.
  • Perform PLC troubleshooting to assist in identifying and resolving control and automation issues on production equipment.
  • Maintain and repair gearboxes, conveyors, packaging machines, vacuums, injectors, slicers, spiral freezers, bagging equipment, and other industrial machinery.
  • Carry out welding tasks as needed to support equipment repair and fabrication.
  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe, efficient, and effective manner, following established procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and sanitation requirements.
  • Document maintenance activities as required and communicate equipment status and repair needs to relevant personnel.
  • Attend educational workshops and training sessions to maintain and update technical knowledge and certified skill levels.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed to support production demands and maintenance schedules.
  • Contribute to overall team efforts by performing other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three to five years of related maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing.
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, AC drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Proficient electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with AC/DC systems and 3-phase power.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Strong industrial maintenance background with experience on conveyors, packaging machines, vacuums, rollstock, injectors, slicers, spiral freezers, and bagging equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work in a cold, wet, refrigerated environment at approximately 40 degrees and enter freezer areas as required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $63232.00 - $79040.00/yr.
