The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing, and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance, and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.
This position is located at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, LA. The purpose of this position is to perform groundskeeping and maintenance duties to help maintain a safe and clean environment for the customers. This includes repairs and upkeep on buildings, trails, facilities, equipment, campground areas, etc. as well as groundskeeping and some custodial duties such as trash pickup.
One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; ORSix semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found

Job Duties:
- Makes general repairs & performs routine maintenance to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioners, heating systems, and other mechanical and related fields such as minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.
- Operates, maintains, and makes general repairs to a variety of equipment, including but not limited to mowers, utility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.
- Maintains grounds in a clean and orderly manner, including mowing, trimming, welding, aerating, fertilizing, etc. as needed.
- Trims trees, clears trails, etc., as needed, and picks up litter/trash and disposes of it properly.
- Assists with cleaning facilities, grounds, and campground areas, including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, mopping, sweeping, polishing, restocking supplies, etc.
- Performs routine daily, weekly, and monthly checks and inspections of the lift stations as required.
- Repairs water management equipment as needed.

Career Progression:This position may be filled as a Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2.
Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
Travel:Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
