Maintenance Mechanic III

Maintenance Mechanic work activities are divided into three (3) classes. Maintenance Mechanic III is the third, or most senior level class, to which Maintenance Mechanic positions are allocated in the classified services.

  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces machinery and equipment such as electric motors, pumps, conveyor systems, air-conditioning and heating systems, special operating equipment such as overhead cranes, streets painting, machines, etc.
  • Uses Hand-tools, electrical tools, power tools, precision-measuring and testing instruments
  • Works from diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications
  • Installs, repairs, or replaces functional parts and components
  • Initiates requests for materials
  • Perform other duties as needed and required

Additional Functions for Public Works:
  1. Ability to apply craft techniques, processes, and principles
  2. Ability to apply shop mathematic and to interpret written instructions
  1. Hold valid driver’s license at time of employment.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in maintenance type work
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply craft techniques, processes and principles; ability to use independent decision-making judgment concerning maintenance and repairs; ability to apply shop mathematics and to interpret written instructions; spatial discrimination; form perception; eye-hand coordination; and finger and manual dexterity.
  4. Hold or be able to qualify for, such certificates or licenses as may be required by Federal, State or City government.

Qualifications for Public Works:
  1. High school diploma or GED from accredited institution
  2. Two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or related experience
  3. Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License -Class A or B.
  4. Hold or be able to qualify for, such certificate or licenses as may be required by Federal, State or City government.

Physical Requirement:

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel of objects and materials.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and climb to perform work in enclosed areas.
  • Involves the ability to exert light to moderately heavy crouching and crawling; balancing, stooping, kneeling, and some lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling or objects or materials of twelve (12) to 100 pounds.
  • Requires specific vision abilities (perception of color, near and far vision, depth perception ability to focus), as well as discrimination of sound, odor, depth, and texture.
  • Requires good communication ability.
  • Job may be performed either with or without accommodations

TRAVEL:

Travel as needed.
