Salary:$60,132 - $69,740 Yearly. The salary does not include an additional on-site 24/7 facility 5% premium.


The Opportunity:

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is accepting applications for aMaintenance Mechanic 2 to support Ridgeview Community Facility by performing a variety of journey-level skilled work in operations, maintenance, repair, and construction of the core facility, storage, and work buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment. You will work independently with little supervision, utilizing general knowledge of several skills including plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work. Some of what you'll do:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on various mechanical equipment including electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen, and air-conditioning equipment.
  • Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems and facility plumbing systems.
  • Perform journey-level work in carpentry, painting, plumbing, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical, or machinist work.
  • Operate hand and power tools, drill presses, skill saw, emery wheels, and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Repair building fixtures, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning lines, laundry and kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances.
  • Repair and install windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, and painted surfaces.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical connection switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves.
  • Perform and schedule routine automobile maintenance, order facility supplies, and instruct youth and staff on care of facility equipment.
  • Ensure necessary tools are operational and equipment is purchased in a timely manner to support general landscaping and grounds maintenance.
  • Instruct staff and youth in use and care of facility equipment. Provide supervision and teach residents basic maintenance skills
  • Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment.
  • Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance while taking preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions.
  • Complete monthly safety checklists that include testing exit lights, fire extinguishers, and all emergency lighting.


Required qualifications:

Four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.

Must hold a valid driver’s license to operate state vehicles.

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:

  • Experience in facility maintenance, including operating a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Experience providing preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment.
  • Experience performing maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience performing maintenance and repairs of plumbing issues.
