Maintenance Manager


The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and actively participating in the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of plastic injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strategic oversight and direct involvement on the production floor to ensure maximum equipment uptime, efficiency, and safety.


Duties and Responsibilities


Hands-On Maintenance Leadership

  • Actively perform and assist with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of manufacturing machines and auxiliary equipment
  • Serve as the technical expert on the floor for complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
  • Lead by example by working alongside technicians during breakdowns, startups, and critical repairs
  • Balance administrative duties with daily hands-on involvement in maintenance activities

Maintenance Operations


  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Ensure rapid response to equipment failures to minimize downtime
  • Monitor equipment performance and reliability metrics

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians
  • Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance
  • Schedule work assignments and ensure accountability


Equipment & Process Optimization

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine efficiency and reliability
  • Maintain and optimize spare parts inventory


Budget & Cost Control

  • Manage maintenance budgets while remaining hands-on in cost-saving initiatives
  • Evaluate repair vs. replacement decisions with direct technical input
  • Recommend capital improvements


Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Work directly with vendors on equipment repairs, installations, and upgrades
  • Provide technical oversight during contractor work


Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with all OSHA regulations in coordination with Human Resources and plant leadership
  • Maintain compliance with all environmental regulations concerning the handling, recycling, and disposal of hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 5–10+ years of maintenance manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or lead role
  • Strong hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and robotics and automation (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)
  • Demonstrated hands-on maintenance experience with plastic injection molding machines and molding presses (e.g., Milacron, Engel, Arburg, Husky, Nissei, Toshiba)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on molding machines, including hot runner systems and process-related downtime
  • Working knowledge of mold setup, changeovers, and molding auxiliary equipment (dryers, chillers, material handling, sprue pickers/robots)
  • Experience maintaining and repairing support equipment such as resin dryers, chillers, grinders, sonic welders, and air compressors
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, including electrical and hydraulic prints
