JOB SUMMARY:The?Mail?Clerk?supports the daily operations of the College’s?mail?services by ensuring the accurate and timely receipt, sorting, processing, and delivery of incoming and outgoing?mail?across multiple campuses. This position performs a combination of manual and clerical duties, maintains an organized and efficient?mailroom environment, and provides courteous assistance to faculty, staff, and students with?mail-related needs. The?Mail?Clerk plays a key role in supporting campus operations by handling?mail?and package distribution with attention to detail, reliability, and adherence to institutional policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Sorts, processes, anddistributesincoming and outgoing mail and packages accurately andin a timely manner
  • Performs scheduled and as-needed mail and package deliveries across all campus locations
  • Coordinates daily mail pickup and delivery with the United States Postal Service and communicates effectivelyregardingmail handling issues, special deliveries, and service needs
  • Operates andmaintainspostage meter and mailing equipment, including downloading postage, weighing mail, and applying correct postage based on size, weight, and class of mail
  • Prepares outgoing mailin accordance withUnited States Postal Service regulations and guidelines
  • Coordinates shipments with carriers such as UPS and FedEx as needed
  • Receives, signs for, and processes certified, registered, insured, and other special handling mail and packages
  • Assistswith campus-wide shipping and receiving operations, including preparing outgoing shipments andmaintainingrelated documentation
  • Provides assistance tofaculty, staff, and students with mail-related questions and services
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and secure mailroom environment
  • Operates office equipment and computer systems to track, log, and process mail and packages
  • Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures, and safety guidelines of the Alabama Community College System and the College
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional operations

  • Graduation from high school or GED certificate required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Two (2) years of experience in?mail?services, shipping/receiving, logistics, or general office support required
  • Experience working in a multi-building or campus environment preferred
  • Familiarity with mail/shipping systems (e.g., USPS, UPS, FedEx) preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Ability toestablishand maintain positive working relationships
  • Basic knowledge of English, spelling, and arithmetic sufficient toaccuratelyand efficiently process mail and packages
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions and adhere toestablishedprocedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sorting and distributing mail
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use standard office equipment (telephone, copier, scanner, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to complete daily routes and tasks
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment, including walking for extended periods indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move mail and packages of varying weights (typically up to 50lbs; occasional heavier items withassistance)and perform physical tasks such as walking, standing,bendingand climbing stairs and laddersthroughout the workday.

Salary Calculation:?For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. ?Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all full-timework experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other full-timework experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position. ?The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this full-timework experience within the time provided here in if such experience is to be considered in determining the initial step place on the Salary Schedule. ? ??
