Job Description

The Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains CNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision components that meet strict quality and production standards. This role supports tool shop operations by machining new components, repairing existing tooling, and contributing to overall equipment reliability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machining equipment to produce precision parts according to specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials to optimize quality and efficiency.
  • Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges to verify part dimensions.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to tolerances, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to programs, tooling, or setups to resolve problems.
  • Support tool shop operations by machining new components and repairing or modifying existing tooling.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety procedures and using required PPE.
  • Contribute to equipment reliability by reporting issues, performing basic maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Use basic computer skills to load programs, document work performed, and record production or quality data as required.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to set up and operate CNC and/or manual machining equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
  • Experience interpreting CAD models for machining requirements.
  • Skill in selecting appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for different materials.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials.
  • Ability to perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Ability to inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and correct machining issues and adjust programs or setups.
  • Basic computer skills for program loading and documentation.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical certification in machining or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of machining experience with CNC and/or manual equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with CNC controls such as Haas and Trak is a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude and interest in tool shop and manufacturing operations.

Work Environment

This role operates in a manufacturing and tool shop environment with regular exposure to machine noise, metal chips, and coolant, where appropriate personal protective equipment is required at all times. The setting is fast-paced with shifting priorities, requiring focus, adaptability, and attention to safety while working around CNC and manual machining equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bardstown, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.50/hr.
