Job Title: Utility Worker

Job Description

This Utility Worker role supports a busy pre-printing facility through a variety of general labor and production tasks. You will work primarily on a swing shift, with the flexibility to cover other shifts as needed, while assisting with ink mixing, machine operation, quality checks, and overall shop upkeep. This position offers a strong opportunity to gain hands-on manufacturing experience and build a long-term career in a well-structured production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor duties in a pre-printing facility to support daily production needs.
  • Mix and pour inks according to specifications, ensuring accurate color and consistency.
  • Load materials into printing machines and operate production equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform assigned passover duties to ensure smooth transitions between shifts and tasks.
  • Conduct quality checks on printed materials and ink colors to confirm they meet required standards.
  • Carry out visual inspections and basic quality inspection tasks throughout the production process.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area through regular shop housekeeping and cleaning.
  • Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.
  • Use basic computer systems to perform simple data entry related to production and quality.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions in English to complete work accurately and on time.
  • Adapt to rotating shifts during the training process and as production needs require.
  • Work at heights when necessary to support operation and maintenance of large printing presses.

Essential Skills

  • Previous production experience in a manufacturing, general labor, warehousing, or similar environment.
  • Proven ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working on your feet for extended periods.
  • High attention to detail when mixing inks, operating machines, and performing quality checks.
  • Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, including swing shift and potential coverage on other shifts with notice.
  • Basic data entry skills and ability to use a computer as needed for production or quality documentation.
  • Ability to read and write in English to follow instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation.
  • Reliable attendance and commitment to maintaining good attendance throughout the 90-day period.
  • Comfort working in a warm environment and in conditions where you may get dirty, such as exposure to ink spills.
  • Comfort working at heights around large printing presses.

Why Work Here?

This role offers an immediate opportunity to start working in a structured, high-volume production environment with a clear 90-day temp-to-hire pathway. You gain valuable experience with advanced printing equipment and production processes, creating a strong foundation for future career growth and internal opportunities. The facility emphasizes organization and cleanliness, supporting a professional atmosphere where dependable performance and good attendance are recognized and valued.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very clean and organized pre-printing facility equipped with large printing presses that can reach 30 to 40 feet in height. You may work from elevated platforms or heights as part of daily tasks, so comfort with heights is important. The environment can become very warm during the summer months, and the work can be physically demanding, involving regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods. The role involves working around inks and production materials, so you should be comfortable with getting dirty at times, including possible ink spills. The primary schedule is swing shift, with potential coverage on other shifts; shift changes are communicated in advance, typically with at least a week’s notice and a weekend to transition. Basic computer use is part of the job, primarily for simple data entry and production-related tasks.
