This role requires the person to be on site at the Facility near Baltimore, MD. (RELOCATION IS AVAILABLE) The right person must have experience in the Frozen Dairy Manufacturing industry.
The Machine Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery and support equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safe, efficient operations in a manufacturing environment. This role performs both preventive and corrective maintenance, maintains accurate records, and supports continuous improvement of equipment reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on production machines, support equipment, and facility systems according to established PM checklists and intervals.
- Inspect machinery during operation to identify abnormal noises, vibrations, leaks, or performance issues and take corrective action.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical problems on plant equipment using appropriate tools and diagnostic methods.
- Dismantle machinery and replace or repair defective parts such as bearings, belts, chains, sensors, valves, cylinders, motors, and gearboxes.
- Install, align, and commission new or relocated machines, conveyors, pumps, and related equipment following drawings, manuals, and safety standards.
- Clean, lubricate, and adjust machines and components to ensure proper operation and extend equipment life.
- Use technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and CMMS/work order systems to plan and document maintenance work.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, parts usage, and equipment history in the maintenance system.
- Monitor parts and supplies, assist with maintaining maintenance inventory, and notify supervisor when stock needs replenishment.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns, prioritize tasks to reduce downtime, and communicate status to production and supervision.
- Support and train operators on basic machine checks, minor adjustments, and cleaning to prevent recurring issues.
- Follow all safety, GMP, and compliance requirements, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and plant policies; help maintain a clean and safe work area.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (bearings, gears, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics) and basic industrial electrical (motors, sensors, wiring, photo-eyes).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and equipment drawings.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring devices (calipers, micrometers), and diagnostic equipment (multimeters, gauges).
- Familiarity with maintenance software or CMMS, work order processing, and parts inventory tracking.
