We have an exciting opportunity as a Temporary Expert Professional (TEP) General Practitioner M.D., D.O. Psychiatristwithin the San Diego Sheriff's Office (SDSO) Detentions Services Bureau (DSB) . This temporary position supports the Sheriff’s Office Medical Services Division and reports directly to the Medical Services Administrator. Duties include the following:

• Establishing the standard of care and clinical guidelines for all psychiatric providers working in SDSO detention facilities.
• Assessing clinical workloads and assisting in determining psychiatric staffing models for the entire system.
• Supporting MSD’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts, including identifying key performance indicators, and developing meaningful clinical metrics.
• Participating in auditing, monitoring psychiatric service metrics, and providing feedback for system improvement.
• Work collaboratively with internal multidisciplinary groups as well as external agencies and community healthcare organizations for the betterment of patient care

What you need in order to qualify:

1. Valid license to practice medicine in the State of California (if not submitted at time of application); And,
2. Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate; And,

3. Valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI)

Ideal Candidate will have completion of fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, or Geriatric Psychiatry, OR four (4) years of full time experience working in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, or Geriatric Psychiatry. Completion of a General Psychiatric residency in an ACGME approved residency program*

Other Important Information:

• Temporary Expert Professional – M.D., D.O. positions are exempt from the classified service and work for the County of San Diego as physicians for a specified period of time in other than a regular capacity. Note: Persons serving in positions in the Unclassified Service do not accrue tenure and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
• Malpractice Insurance: Pursuant to the provisions of California law, the County of San Diego, through its self-insurance program, provides coverage for its employees regarding malpractice and liability within the scope of employment.
