Job Title: Fire Alarm Technician Foreman (Low Voltage)
Job Description

This role leads field crews in the installation, testing, and maintenance of low voltage fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring all projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. You will combine advanced technical expertise with hands-on leadership, mentoring technicians and apprentices while serving as the primary field contact for project stakeholders. The position is ideal for a self-motivated, solution-oriented leader who takes ownership of both the quality of the install and the development of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the installation of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, pull stations, emergency communication systems, and related low voltage equipment in accordance with NFPA, NEC, and local codes.
  • Coordinate daily field activities to ensure projects are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule.
  • Report to the Division Manager and collaborate closely with Project Managers to align field work with project timelines, scope, and quality standards.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor technicians and apprentices, promoting safe, efficient, and high-quality work practices.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair fire alarm and life safety systems to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Test, program, and commission fire alarm systems, including performing functional and sensitivity testing to verify proper operation and code compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including as-built drawings, inspection records, and compliance reports.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for clients, inspectors, and fire marshals, providing clear communication and professional representation on the jobsite.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, NFPA 72, NEC, and other applicable safety and code standards across all jobsites.
  • Stay current on life safety technologies, equipment, and applicable codes through ongoing training and self-development.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fire alarm system designs to plan and execute installations.
  • Install, route, and terminate low voltage cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, fire-rated cable, and other data and control wiring.
  • Perform conduit installation and conduit bending as needed for system installations.
  • Operate ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and hand and power tools safely while performing installation and service work.
  • Support occasional evening, weekend, or on-call work as required to meet project or service needs.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a low voltage technician with fire alarm or life safety systems.
  • Proven experience in a leadership, foreman, or crew lead role in the low voltage or fire alarm field strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and related electrical and life safety codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fire alarm system designs.
  • Hands-on experience with low voltage cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, fire-rated cable, data cable, and pulling wire.
  • Proficiency with electrical work related to low voltage systems, including conduit installation and conduit bending.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability with field technicians and apprentices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a high level of professionalism in customer and inspector interactions.
  • High-level problem-solving ability with a focus on practical, field-ready solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to regularly bend, climb, reach, walk, and work from ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexible availability, including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call support as needed.
  • Fire alarm and low voltage field experience in construction and commercial environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical training in low voltage, electronics, or life safety systems.
  • NICET Level I certification in fire alarm systems or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
  • Manufacturer certifications for fire alarm equipment (for example, Autocall, Potter, or similar systems).
  • Experience working on education, construction, government, commercial-industrial, and multifamily projects.
  • Experience with security cameras, video surveillance, and related low voltage communication systems.
  • Strong integrity, work ethic, and a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Outgoing, self-motivated, and solution-oriented mindset with confidence in guiding and coaching others.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in the field on education, construction, government, commercial-industrial, and multifamily project sites, focusing on low voltage life safety and communication systems. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, involving installation, testing, and service of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, pull stations, emergency communication systems, security cameras, and related low voltage infrastructure. Daily work includes handling electrical and low voltage wiring, pulling data cable, installing and bending conduit, and working with Cat5e, Cat6, and fire-rated cabling. You will frequently work on active construction sites, use ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts, and operate a variety of hand and power tools while adhering to OSHA, NFPA 72, NEC, and other safety standards. The schedule is typically full-time with the need for flexibility to support occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call assignments based on project and service demands. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $62.00/hr.
