General Description:This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefited civilian/non-uniformed position assigned to the department's warehouse and administration facility that assists in maintaining department inventory and logistics.
Organization: The Logistic Assistant reports to the Department Head or a designated professional and supervises no staff.
Essential Functions:
- Reads work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributedand/or shipped.
- Maintain department's logistics inventory.
- Inspects inventory items for accuracy, quantity, quality and damage.
- Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to predetermined sequence such assize, type, style, color or product code.
- File requisitions, work orders or requests for materials, tools or other stock items and distribute items toshipping or to designated delivery driver storage area.
- Ensure storage areas are accessible and safe for staff and vendors.
- Assemble orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves, or relocate orders to a staging area.
- Mark materials with identifying information using appropriate method.
- Open boxes, crates and other containers.
- Operates a forklift and other equipment (e.g. handtruck, pallet jack)
- Record amounts of materials or items received or distributed via appropriate computer program.
- Assist in counting of physical inventory.
- May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed.
- Complete requisition forms to order supplies from stations and other facilities.
- Prepare parcels for mailing and shipping.
- Cleans, maintains and organizes storage and work area for orderliness at all times.
- Wear the proper safety equipment.
Fire-EMS Specific Essential Functions
- Maintains storage and inventory of all department supplies and equipment with an identification and marking control system.
- Makes purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment and recommendations of future needs.
- Drives fleet or other related trucks to repair facilities/locations within 100 miles of the County.
- Maintains records/reports for the warehouse operation.
- Fosters volunteer involvement and membership to support a combination career and volunteer system.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of basic inventory practices and procedures. Ability to maintain inventory records; to perform basic mathematical calculations; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to heavy lifting, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolongs periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions. Must have experience with standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, box cutters and tape dispensers. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Education, Experience and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required and prior warehouse experience preferred –OR– Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable
Special Conditions:
- Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
- Must obtain valid Driver's License within 30 days of employment to be eligible to operate a county vehicle
