Live Performance Intern

Description:

Return Records is a community-centric independent record label and live events company based in New York, NY. The company distributes through The Orchard and Sony Music Entertainment. Return Records seeks to become a “Motown” for the digital age by providing the building blocks of success for emerging musicians, creators, and artists. The company specializes in both recorded music and live performances primarily in the Pop, Rock, R&B, and House music genres.


Return Records has produced a robust internship program for 4+ years with 14+ highly qualified and talented alumni that have been placed across the Marketing, Touring, Publishing, Distribution, and Audio Engineering functions of the company. Many interns have graduated to pivotal roles in the music industry at companies like William Morris Endeavor, Paramount, Amazon Studios, Disney, and Insomniac Events.


The Live Performance Intern role is crucial to supporting Return Records’ live events, bookings, and artist operations as the company continues to expand its presence in the music and live entertainment space. You will work directly with the founder to help execute songwriting camps, coordinate events, manage bookings, and support artist development. Your efforts will play a key role in driving both community engagement and revenue growth for the company and across the indie music scene in NYC.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support execution of songwriting camps, including coordination of participants, venues, sponsors, and logistics
  • Assist with artist bookings, DJ sets, and live showcases, including outreach, scheduling, and confirmations
  • Execute event logistics, including equipment, food/beverage, and on-site operations
  • Deploy marketing and promotional assets for events, including social media and outreach
  • Maintain contracts, payments, and administrative workflows for bookings and partnerships
  • Capture and maintain photo/video content from events and activations
  • Support content creation, scheduling, and engagement across social platforms
  • Conduct light research on artists, trends, and opportunities to support label growth
  • Assist with artist onboarding, demo review, and release planning


Time Commitment/Compensation:

  • Internship will be unpaid. College students are required to show proof of admittance for school credit.
  • Commitment of 10-20 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months.
  • Internship takes place between June and August 2026 with potential to extend upon satisfactory completion
  • Internship may require 2-4 hours of onsite work weekly to attend events/meetings


Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented
  • Deep passion for music, live events, and the entertainment industry
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced and evolving environments
  • Experience with office productivity software (Google Workspace, Microsoft O365, OpenAI for Business, Squarespace, Canva, Notion, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools
  • Familiarity with music tools like Chartmetric, Spotify for Artists, Groover, etc.
  • Interest in live events, bookings, or artist management preferred
  • Pursuing a degree in Music Business, Marketing, Communications, Media & Entertainment, Events Management, or a related field preferred
  • Based in or able to commute to New York City area for events and meetings
