Job Description

The Lighting Sales Representative is a senior-level sales professional with 10 to 15 years of experience who leads and executes the sales strategy for lighting products and solutions. This role focuses on developing new business, managing and growing key accounts, and providing expert, consultative guidance on lighting systems, energy-efficient solutions, and emerging technologies. The position requires a strong blend of technical knowledge, relationship-building skills, and strategic sales leadership to consistently meet or exceed revenue targets.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and strengthen long-term relationships with existing clients, gaining a deep understanding of their evolving lighting needs and identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling lighting products and solutions.
  • Identify, prospect, and engage potential clients and industries that can benefit from lighting systems, lighting power distribution, and lighting equipment, and develop strategies to expand the overall client base.
  • Apply in-depth technical expertise in lighting products, including LEDs, fixtures, controls, and energy-efficient solutions, while staying current on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct consultative sales engagements by assessing client requirements and delivering tailored lighting solutions that align with their operational goals, energy-efficiency objectives, and budget constraints.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive, well-structured sales presentations that clearly communicate the features, benefits, and return on investment (ROI) of lighting products and systems to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop detailed, customized proposals that include accurate pricing, product specifications, project timelines, and implementation plans, collaborating with internal teams to ensure technical and commercial accuracy.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contract conditions to secure new business and renewals while maintaining profitability and achieving or surpassing sales and revenue targets.
  • Oversee the end-to-end order management process, including order placement, coordination of delivery, and installation support when applicable, ensuring a smooth customer experience and high client satisfaction.
  • Continuously conduct market research to analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences, and use these insights to identify new opportunities and refine sales strategies.
  • Provide sales leadership by mentoring, guiding, or managing members of the sales team, sharing best practices, and supporting them in achieving collective sales goals.
  • Actively network by attending industry events, trade shows, and conferences to expand your professional network, strengthen the company’s presence in the market, and generate qualified leads.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions and sales activities in customer relationship management (CRM) systems and leverage CRM data to manage pipelines and forecast results.
  • Generate regular sales reports that provide clear insights into sales activities, pipeline status, market conditions, and progress toward established sales goals and targets.
  • Engage in cold calling and proactive outreach to build new relationships, introduce lighting solutions, and open new sales opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including technical, design, and operations teams, to ensure that proposed solutions are feasible and aligned with client expectations.
  • Travel as needed to meet with clients on-site, conduct presentations, oversee key project milestones, and participate in industry events.
Essential Skills
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in lighting sales or a closely related field, with a proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of lighting products, including lighting systems, lighting power distribution, lighting equipment, and energy-efficient lighting solutions.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand, interpret, and clearly explain complex technical lighting concepts and specifications to clients.
  • Demonstrated expertise in consultative sales, including the ability to assess client needs and design tailored lighting solutions that meet performance, efficiency, and budget requirements.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills with experience structuring and closing complex sales deals and contracts.
  • Advanced presentation skills, with the ability to deliver compelling, well-organized sales presentations and product demonstrations to diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including experience leading, mentoring, or managing sales teams toward shared goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients at all levels.
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) software, including using CRM systems for pipeline management, reporting, and client communication tracking.
  • Experience with CRM management, including maintaining accurate records, analyzing data, and using insights to drive sales performance.
  • Solid experience in cold calling and proactive outreach to generate new business opportunities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience selling into commercial, industrial, or other sectors where lighting design and energy efficiency are critical considerations.
  • Familiarity with lighting design principles and the ability to collaborate effectively with lighting designers and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret market research, competitor information, and client feedback to refine sales strategies.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability while also collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex sales opportunities simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel as required to meet clients and attend trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
  • A track record of building long-term client relationships and repeat business through exceptional service and follow-through.
Work Environment

This position follows a hybrid work model, typically with four days in the office and one day working remotely each week. The role involves regular use of CRM software and standard office productivity tools to manage client relationships, prepare proposals, and generate reports. You will spend time in both office and client-facing environments, which may include visits to client sites, facilities, and industry events such as trade shows and conferences. Travel is required as needed to meet with clients, conduct presentations, and support key projects, while the hybrid schedule supports a balance between in-person collaboration and focused remote work.

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $46.00/hr.
