Under the general supervision of a Lift Station Operator II, this position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing 81 wastewater lift stations. The role involves performing manual and semi-skilled utility work, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the operation of wastewater transmission systems. This position is designated as essential and requires participation in on-call rotations and emergency response during adverse weather or utility events.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair 81 wastewater lift stations.
- Perform wet well cleaning; inspect pumps and motors; and assist with electrical and SCADA troubleshooting.
- Operate and maintain wastewater transmission mains and support underground utility maintenance and construction activities.
- Operate various vehicles, cranes, and motorized maintenance and construction equipment.
- Complete and submit accurate electronic and paper reports; maintain detailed records of all work performed.
- Participate in rotating on-call duty and respond to emergencies, including heavy rain events, hurricanes, natural disasters, and utility system failures.
- Work extended hours as required to support emergency operations and system reliability.
- Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe work environment in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Lean Six Sigma principles.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior, accountability, and professionalism in all tasks.
- Apply critical thinking, curiosity, and initiative to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.
- Perform related duties as required in support of Utilities operations.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework is a plus.
Experience
- Experience in utility maintenance or related fields preferred.
- Proficient in operating motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
- Experience with machine-shop tools and electrical/electronic repairs.
- Experience operating and maintaining wastewater pumping systems.
- Familiarity with radio telemetry systems (e.g., SCADA/Dataflow) preferred.
- A comparable combination of training and experience may be considered in lieu of minimum qualifications.
Licenses & Certifications
- Must possess a Florida Class “C” Wastewater Collection certification from FWPCOA or obtain within one year of hire.
- Must possess a valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsements at the time of application.
- OSHA confined space training is preferred.

- Ability to work at moderate heights and within wet and dry wells of lift stations.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and use safety harnesses.
- Must be able to wear PPE, including respirators and SCBA; must pass a pulmonary function test.
- No facial hair that interferes with respiratory PPE face seal.
- Ability to work in environments with chemical fumes, dust, machinery hazards, and adverse weather conditions.
- Noise levels range from moderate to high.
- Physical activities include walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and grasping tools.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
Work Days/Hours : Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Some weekends and holidays)
