The City of Monticello is currently accepting applications for part-time lifeguards to work at our indoor and outdoor facilities. The City of Monticello offers excellent part-time benefits including a free single or discounted family membership to the facility and premium pay ($1-$3/hr) to employees working 20+ hours per 2-week period.
General Statement of Duties: Performs routine to semi-skilled lifeguard duties at the Monticello Community Center pool ensuring the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies; performs related duties as required.
Supervision received: Works under the general and technical supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor; receives general oversight from other community center managers in the absence of the Aquatics Supervisor.

- Monitors patrons using the community center aquatic facility to ensure safe use of the facility.
- Recognizes when assistance is needed and performs rescue techniques when required.
- Enforces aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Inspects the aquatic facility in accordance with the daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor.
- Records information on pool usage as directed and prepares incident reports.
- Provides suggestions for pool activities and games and assists with those activities.
- Participates in scheduled in-service training sessions and participates in written skill exercises. Must remain current on all required certifications.
- Assists members and guests, without compromising public safety, with requests and provides information.
- Assists custodians with pool and equipment cleaning and minor maintenance, as scheduled or requested.
Performs other duties as needed or required.
- Considerable knowledge of monitoring and rescue techniques for an indoor aquatic facility, including first aid and CPR.
- Working knowledge of effective customer service and customer relation techniques.
- Working knowledge of facility policies, procedures and rules.
- Considerable skill in swimming and rescue in an indoor aquatic facility.
- Considerable ability to observe and detect possible problems and to respond appropriately, including activating the Emergency Action Plan for the pool.
- Working ability to respond to policy or procedure violations fairly and with the appropriate level of firmness, while presenting a positive image of the aquatic facility.
- Working ability to work around pool chemicals, heat, and humidity associated with a public pool.
- Working ability to maintain orderly and clean surroundings.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Duties are performed in an indoor public pool environment.
- The work requires exposure to workplace hazards such a potential loud environment when a large group is in the pool area and exposure to pool chemicals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB:
- Ability to use large motor skills to lift and carry or pull individuals to the side of the pool in emergencies.
- Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross certification as a Lifeguard.
- Must possess First Aid and Safety, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
