Supervises security staff at a medium security facility.
Make sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, building contents, grounds and vehicles in a medium facility.
Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
Supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts and makes informal counts when required.
Trains subordinate security staff and ensure that they perform all assigned duties.
Keeps abreast of current administrative directives pertaining to medium security institutions.
Maintains control of all security keys, security devices and equipment, vehicle keys, and keys to all building.
Conducts security inspections and shakedowns for contraband control.
Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.
Assists Captain with maintaining duty roster, post assignments, leave approvals, and employee time keeping in Kronos.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
