Wichita is charming in appearance with a reasonably priced housing market, 8 shopping districts, 28 art galleries, 33 museums, and award-winning cultural opportunities such as The Wichita Grand Opera, Music Theater of Wichita, and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Services offered at the Dole VA include (but not limited to): Primary Care Services in Wichita, Dodge City, Hays, Hutchinson, Parsons, and Salina, serving over 24,000 veterans per year. 22 Medical and Surgical Specialties, serving over 50,000 veterans per year. 6 Surgery suites, performing 2,000 cases per year. 9 bed Emergency Department, serving 22,000 veterans per year. 30 bed Community Living Center combined with at 10 bed Hospice unit. Behavioral Health provides support for over 65,000 veterans per year. 8 bed Intensive Care Unit and 4 bed Step Down Unit. 29 Medical/Surgical beds (soon to be all private rooms). Home Based Primary Care serves over 200 veterans. Telehealth services and other virtual care options are available for all veterans. Substance Abuse Residential Rehab Treatment Facility with 14 beds.

  • The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse to help serve our Veterans in our Specialty Care Department. The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team assisting with the delivery of care to patients in the outpatient clinic setting. Provides a full range of services and nursing care to patients who present for or request assistance with a variety of mental, physical and/or behavior problems. As an active member of the multidisciplinary care team this nurse understands the importance of reporting and recording, in the patient's computerized medical record, the care provided, pertinent interaction(s) and communication(s) with patients, family members, professional and supportive personnel. Performs services requiring technical and manual skills and obtains basic patient data, e.g., vital signs, weight, medication review, participates in planning, executes interventions in accordance with the treatment plan, and contributes to evaluation of individualized interventions related to treatment. Will aid patients with various disabilities and levels of mobility utilizing appropriate safe patient handling equipment (lifts, slings, etc.). The LPN can recognize and report potential safety hazards and life-threatening emergencies and respond appropriately. Participates in evaluating, planning, and executing interventions in accordance with the concept of good nursing care and per the patient's treatment plan. Fosters/supports a learning environment by participating in the orientation of new employees, providing feedback as appropriate and seeking opportunities for self-improvement. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
