About the Job:

Under the direction of the Library Director or their designee, manage and coordinate a division of the Library (e.g.: Youth Services, Adult Services, Technical Services, or Evergreen Branch). The work involves hiring, training, oversight, and evaluation of professional, clerical, and volunteer staff, acting as a liaison with other community agencies serving similar populations and working with potential funding sources to generate additional resources and support. Employees in this class serve on the Library's Leadership Team to determine overall Library goals, coordinate services, and formulate policies and procedures. The work is reviewed by observation and through evaluation of reports and projects. This position oversees a small staff of professional, technical, and clerical employees and various volunteer positions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science AND
  • 4 years progressively responsible public library experience, including experience leading special projects or supervisory experience, as well as considerable experience in an independent work environment.
  • Washington State Librarian Certification is required within six months of hire.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License.

  • Work is performed primarily in an office and/or public library environment under pressure and requires the ability to quickly adjust to changing priorities and demands.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to read from printed books, computer screens, maps and diagrams, sit, use a keyboard and/or telephone and occasionally lift boxes of books and/or office supplies that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel by various modes of private and commercial transportation within the region may be required.
  • Occasional fieldwork may be required.
  • Attendance and participation at evening meetings may be required.
  • May be required to work a varied schedule including evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
