Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for justice and administrative support? The Appellate Services Administration (ASA) is seeking a skilled Legal Assistant 2 to provide mission-critical support to our Administrative Law Judges (ALJs).

In this role, you will be the backbone of the appeal process, ensuring that cases are processed accurately, timely, and fairly for over 45 diverse programs administered by the Department of Economic Security.

  • Procedural Support: Research case files, analyze jurisdiction and legal issues, and determine the timeliness of hearing requests based on Federal and State laws.
  • ALJ Assistance: Facilitate hearing schedules, assist with case research, upload legal decisions and dispositions, and perform document entry into our repositories.
  • Communication & Service: Handle customer inquiries, assist with elevated docket calls, and manage correspondence with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate, confidential records, identify and correct errors in documentation, and manage high-volume, repetitive work with a high level of speed and accuracy.

What You Bring

We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses the ability to analyze complex information from multiple sources.

Technical Skills

  • Office Productivity: Proficiency in Google Apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Systems Management: Experience with case management systems, including APS, Clear2There, Guide (mainframe), HEAplus, AZTECS, and CACTUS.
  • Equipment: Ability to operate various office equipment and manage multiple computer programs simultaneously.

Legal Knowledge & Competencies

  • Legal Expertise: Knowledge of Arizona Public Assistance and Unemployment Insurance law, practices, and procedures, as well as the Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to resolve conflicts between competing information, analyze complex case data, and make command decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of customers and agency personnel.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work with minimal supervision while adhering to strict office policies, security procedures, and confidentiality mandates.
