Litigation Firm
Houston civil litigation firm with distinct dockets involving plaintiff's personal-injury cases and complex commercial matters—including wrongful-death actions, catastrophic injuries, partnership disputes, contract disputes, and fiduciary litigation. The firm handles cases of unusual size and complexity, and the firm’s principal attorney regularly practices across every level of Texas civil litigation, from trials, arbitrations, and appeals through the courts of appeals, the Supreme Court of Texas, and federal court.
We are hiring a full-time legal assistant and/or paralegal to work alongside the firm’s principal attorney in our Greenway Plaza office. The position is open to candidates at any career stage, including those entering the legal field for the first time. We are looking for the right person more than the right resume. The work is intellectually demanding, the docket varies daily, and the role requires someone who can take constructive feedback and who can solve problems independently rather than waiting for direction. The job starts in mid-May.
About your work environment:
The firm shares an office with one of the largest and most respected plaintiff's litigation firms in Houston—a roughly 30-person environment with a full kitchen, conference rooms, on-site gym, and a professional atmosphere. You will be part of a busy, working law office with the resources, energy, and institutional knowledge of a major plaintiff's practice surrounding you every day.
About the role:
You will work closely with the principal attorney on every phase of active litigation: drafting and formatting pleadings, motions, and briefs in Microsoft Word; managing case files; e-filing through eFileTexas and PACER; legal research in Westlaw; managing calendar and correspondence in Outlook; preparing and reviewing written discovery and document production; communicating directly with existing and prospective clients; corresponding with court staff; and overseeing administrative tasks such as invoicing. As part of your training and development, you will assist the principal attorney by preparing for and attending depositions, evidentiary hearings, and trials.
You will also help the firm continue building AI-assisted workflows using Claude, which we use daily for drafting, document review, research support, and case organization. The nature of legal work continues to change rapidly with each passing month because of innovations in AI. The firm is committed to integrating and deploying AI into every aspect of its practice, and the person in this role will be a meaningful contributor to that buildout.
Variety will be a consistent feature of this role. It demands exceptional attention to detail, as well as a willingness to shift between tasks across different cases on a day-to-day basis.
In a single week, you may move between preparing a demand package in a personal-injury matter, outlining a motion to compel discovery in a commercial litigation matter, and putting the finishing touches on an appellate brief.
What we are looking for:
This role requires you to spend most of your time reviewing, drafting, and organizing legal documents. The single most important quality is the ability to write and communicate clearly and precisely. Strong writing is therefore essential, and applications will be evaluated on writing first.
Litigation is adversarial and competitive. Winning matters and has real-life consequences for our clients. Accordingly, the role will require you to constantly adapt to the objectives and challenges of each case.
You can immediately distinguish yourself in this job, or in any career, by demonstrating an aptitude for troubleshooting, problem solving, and acquiring new and divergent skills.
Beyond that, we are looking for:
Demonstrated interest in the legal field—a paralegal certificate, a legal studies or related degree, prior employment in a law office (including reception, intake, or court positions), an internship, court observation, or a clear and credible explanation of why you want to work in litigation.
Working proficiency in Microsoft Word, including comfort with formatting, styles, and track changes.
Comfortable learning new software—Outlook, Claude, eFileTexas, PACER, Westlaw, and Adobe Acrobat.
Experience using AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT, etc.
Reliability, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines without losing track.
Willingness and ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) in our Greenway Plaza office. This role is in-person.
Authorization to work in the United States.
Helpful but not required:
Prior experience in a law firm or court setting.
Familiarity with Texas state court procedures, federal court e-filing, or appellate practice.
Notary commission, or willingness to obtain one
Growth & Development:
This is a position where your performance and initiative will deliver an immediate impact. In the first year, you will gain experience in nearly every aspect of civil litigation. For the right person, this can result in greater job flexibility, discretionary bonuses, and increasingly relevant professional experience. To that end, the firm will sponsor paralegal certification, continuing education, or other relevant professional certifications for candidates who show a commitment to the legal field.
Compensation & Benefits:
$70,000–$85,000 total compensation depending on experience, including salary and health insurance.
Potential for bonuses based on results.
Two weeks paid time off.
Health insurance enrollment after 90-day probationary period (probationary period may be reduced for the right candidate).
Free covered parking at our Greenway Plaza office.
How to apply:
Please submit three things: (1) your resume/CV, (2) a professional, formatted cover letter explaining (A) why you are the right candidate for this role and (B) the extent of your experience or knowledge of AI tools, including LLM chatbots such as Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, etc.; and, separately, (3) a comprehensive, detailed analysis of both your resume AND your cover letter of approximately 500 to 750 words that you create using Claude (claude.ai). (Claude is a free app you download onto either your phone or desktop). The analysis should highlight the strengths and weaknesses of your resume and cover letter in connection with this role. We are looking at how you think, how you write, and how you respond to and implement feedback from AI.
