A national insurance defense firm is seeking a Legal Assistant to join its Detroit office, supporting one partner focused primarily on trucking and transportation litigation.
This is a key role within a lean litigation team, working closely with the attorney and paralegal to keep cases moving efficiently. The legal assistant serves as the central point of coordination across deadlines, filings, and day-to-day case activity.
This role is tied to the Detroit office with in-office presence required (hybrid flexibility may be considered after initial ramp-up).
We are moving efficiently and can take candidates from initial conversation to decision within approximately two weeks.
Responsibilities
- Manage attorney calendar, deadlines, and court schedules
- Coordinate filings, service, and case-related logistics
- Track key litigation deadlines and ensure timely completion across the team
- Serve as point of coordination between attorney, paralegal, and external parties
- Prepare and format correspondence, pleadings, and basic legal documents
- Communicate with clients, courts, experts, and opposing counsel as needed
- Maintain organized case files and ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Support overall workflow and keep matters progressing efficiently
Qualifications
- 3+ years of legal assistant experience in a litigation environment
- Insurance defense experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and keep teams on track
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, ownership mindset
- Comfort working closely with attorneys and paralegals in a fast-paced setting
- Experience with court filings and litigation procedures
Compensation
- $65,000 – $75,000 depending on experience
