Lead SCADA Engineer
Location: Andover, MA/Houston, TX (either location)
Hybrid – United States (12 in-office days per month)
Overview
We are seeking a Lead SCADA Engineer to support a growing portfolio of utility-scale energy assets across the United States. This individual will provide technical leadership for SCADA systems supporting approximately 70 sites and 40 substations, ensuring reliable monitoring, communications, and control across the fleet. The ideal candidate will have a strong Electrical Engineering background, experience with high-voltage systems and substations, and broad exposure to multiple SCADA platforms. This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operation, maintenance, and optimization of SCADA systems across a nationwide fleet of energy asset
- Support approximately 70 sites and 40 substations, ensuring system reliability and performance
- Manage SCADA upgrades, integrations, troubleshooting efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, and third-party vendors to resolve technical issues
- Support commissioning activities and integration of new projects and substation
- Ensure compliance with applicable NERC standards and internal operational requirements
- Lead multiple SCADA-related projects, managing schedules, resources, and deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines
- 5+ years of SCADA engineering experience
- Experience supporting renewable energy, utility, power generation, or transmission assets
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems and substations
- Experience working with multiple SCADA platforms and communication protocols
- Familiarity with NERC compliance requirements
- Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, operationally focused environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with solar, wind, battery storage, utility, or conventional generation assets
- Knowledge of DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, PLCs, RTUs, and substation automation systems
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers
