LOCATION/DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

As part of the Life Products Division (LPD), the Mebane, NC site focuses on producing a domestic supply of critically needed laboratory pipette tips used in disease research and high-volume diagnostic testing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Mfg Equipment Maintenance Technician will be responsible for installing, fixing, and maintaining machinery, equipment, plumbing, physical structures, electrical wiring, and lighting within the plant operating facility according to specifications, codes, safety guidelines, and company procedures. Also responsible for executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing, automation, and facility equipment.

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) procedures on injection molding machines (IMM), automation equipment and robotic systems, assembly equipment, and plant utility systems (chillers, dryers, compressors, cooling towers, HVAC, pumping systems).
  • Perform inspections, lubrication, calibration, adjustments, and component replacements per PM schedules.
  • Identify early signs of wear, failure, or misalignment and escalate findings appropriately.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and GDP-compliant completion of maintenance documentation and work orders.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic robotic systems.
  • Disassemble and repair mechanical components such as screws, barrels, cylinders, valves, pumps, and gearboxes.
  • Reassemble equipment and install new or replacement components according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Support machinery moves, installations, and equipment setup activities as needed.
  • Operate drill presses, grinders, welders, mills, lathes, and other metalworking tools to fabricate or repair parts.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment including multimeters, megohmmeters, and ammeters.
  • Follow all Safety and Environmental rules and procedures and maintain 5S standards.
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions and participate in required training.
  • Support PPI and Kaizen initiatives and assist in root cause investigations as needed.
  • Provide support across operational areas as required and perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Maintains a safe work environment by following standards and procedures, aligning with legal regulations.
  • Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Accomplishes preventative maintenance programs for all plant equipment.
  • Maintains specified records and logs of repairs and maintenance activities in compliance with GDP.
  • Works on Continuous Improvement and supports all PPI, Keys, and Lean projects.
  • Perform immediate and preventative maintenance for manufacturing production equipment
  • Assess and recommend improvements to molding machines, auxiliary equipment and electrical systems, and HVAC, for long term sustainability.
  • Engages the Maintenance and Engineering team to challenge the status quo to make continuous operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with all appropriate departments/staff in progress updates, problem analysis, and corrective action recommendations.
  • Ability to identify and implement balanced processes.
  • Work with Molding, Scheduling and Production Manager on prioritizing machine repair scheduling.
  • Participate in the creation of SOPs and work instructions related to the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Required: Minimum of 4 years of work experience in a manufacturing, operations, production or lab setting or related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
  • Experience maintaining injection molding machines (IMM).
  • Experience maintaining industrial automation or robotic systems.
  • Experience with PLCs, controls, vision systems
  • Experience in plastics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry with adherence to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Technical training or industry certifications in industrial maintenance or related discipline.

TECHINCAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of automation and robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and basic electrical schematics.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Commitment to safety and ethical standards.
  • Computer skills including the Microsoft Office Suite. Writing and articulation are an important aspect of documenting work performed in applications such as SAP.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift more than 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Frequently stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Occasionally kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be available to work overtime, including weekends, as necessary to support operations.
