Our challenge
The Lead Java Developer will bring over a decade of expertise in Java and related technologies to lead complex application development projects. The role involves transforming monolithic systems to microservices, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions, and leveraging modern Java features. The ideal candidate will be proactive in adopting new technologies such as generative AI and integrating tools like Copilot into daily workflows.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $130k - $140k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of Java-based applications, with a focus on migrating monolithic systems to microservices architecture.
- Utilize strong core Java fundamentals, including Collections, Multithreading, and Memory Management, to build robust applications.
- Implement design patterns and best practices to create maintainable and scalable solutions.
- Develop REST APIs using Spring Boot, Spring Security, and ensure security best practices.
- Drive Java version migrations (Java 8 to higher versions, including Java 17 or current versions), leveraging new language features.
- Architect and optimize applications for performance, memory, and security.
- Implement caching solutions such as Redis and optimize data access layers.
- Work with NoSQL databases like MongoDB and messaging systems such as Kafka, resolving scenario-based challenges.
- Collaborate on cloud infrastructure deployment, knowledge of Cloud platforms and Open Cloud Project (OCP).
- Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, improve code coverage and perform root cause analysis.
- Incorporate AI/Generative AI tools like Copilot for development efficiency.
- Mentor team members on best practices, code quality, and emerging technologies.
Requirements:
- Experience in Java development and architecture.
- Deep understanding of Core Java (Collections, Multithreading, Memory Management, Concurrency).
- Proven experience in designing and migrating monolithic applications to microservices architecture.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security, and REST API development.
- Extensive knowledge of Java 8 features and experience with migration to newer Java versions (Java 17 or latest).
- Hands-on experience with caching strategies (Redis or similar).
- Experience working with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging systems, with scenario-based troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Cloud platforms and OCP (Open Cloud Project), including deployment strategies.
- Experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines, with a focus on automation and code quality metrics.
- Exposure to AI tools such as Copilot and their integration into daily development tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and architecture design capabilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred, but not required:
- Certifications in Java, Cloud, or DevOps.
- Experience with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with other AI/ML tools and techniques.
