Lead Interior Designer | Austin, TX

Working Style: In-Office | Full-Time

We’re hiring on behalf of a growing, design-forward residential builder in Austin seeking a Lead Interior Designer to take ownership of high-impact projects from concept through completion.

This is an opportunity to step into a highly collaborative, hands-on environment where design is deeply integrated into the full construction lifecycle. The team values transparency, open communication, and shared problem-solving; creating a culture where ideas are welcomed, challenges are embraced, and people genuinely enjoy working together.

The studio fosters connection in meaningful ways, from weekly team lunches that bring departments together to regular social outings and annual celebrations that make the workplace feel both engaging and welcoming. It’s a place where high standards and a supportive atmosphere go hand in hand.

About the Role: As the Lead Interior Designer, you will drive the vision, planning, and execution of interior and exterior finish selections for custom residential builds. You’ll balance creativity with technical precision—ensuring each design is not only beautiful, but also executable, cost-conscious, and aligned with both client expectations and construction realities.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams across architecture, construction, and purchasing, while also engaging directly with clients, vendors, and trade partners. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of design, documentation, and real-world execution.

Success in this role requires a strong ability to think holistically, communicate clearly, and proactively solve challenges, bringing forward well-researched, thoughtful solutions that account for budget, materials, timelines, and resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design required
  • 3-5 years of residential interior design experience, ideally tied to ground-up construction or large-scale renovations
  • NCIDQ certification preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and the ability to design within real-world build constraints
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to read and interpret architectural plans and specifications
  • Experience translating client needs into fully realized, executable design concepts
  • Strong sourcing capabilities and confidence working with vendors and trade partners
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a high level of adaptability
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of SketchUp, Buildertrend, and standard platforms (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, PDF tools)
