Lead Tax Accountant


About the Role


We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Accountant with deep tax expertise to join our team and oversee the accounting, tax compliance, and strategic planning across the family’s complex financial ecosystem.

  • Seeking experience working with high-net-worth individuals (HNWI)


Tax Planning & Compliance

Prepare, review, and file all federal, state, and local tax returns for:

  • Individuals (HNWI/UHNWI)
  • Trusts
  • Partnership
  • Property tax returns
  • S-Corporations
  • Private foundations and charitable entities
  • Gifts
  • Manage quarterly/annual tax projections, estimated payments, and withholding
  • Support IRS/state audits and respond to tax notices
  • Monitor changing tax laws and assess implications for the family office


Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain general ledgers for multiple family entities and trusts.
  • Perform reconciliations, record transactions, track cost basis, and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Produce net worth summaries, cash flow reports, and consolidated financial packages for family principals.
  • Integrate investment data into accounting systems and support reporting needs for real estate, private equity, and marketable securities.


Estate, Trust & Philanthropy Support

  • Support wealth transfer strategies with financial modeling and documentation.
  • Maintain records of gifts, trust distributions, charitable contributions, and foundation activity.
  • Provide analysis to support estate planning, entity structuring, and long-term wealth preservation strategies.


Governance, Compliance & Operations

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls and high-standard documentation practices.
  • Coordinate bill-pay, cash management, and entity funding needs with the family office team.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s in Taxation preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in tax accounting, preferably within a family office, private client services, or public accounting firm (HNW/UHNW exposure required).
  • Must have or be actively working toward earning your CPA


Deep knowledge of:

  • Individual, trust, estate & gift taxation
  • Partnership and corporate tax
  • Multi-entity structures
  • Real estate and investment tax matters
  • Strong understanding of accounting best practices and financial reporting.
  • Experience with GL systems (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex financial topics clearly.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
