Job Title: Laser Tracker Quality InspectorJob DescriptionThe Laser Tracker Quality Inspector inspects machined parts, components, assemblies, and materials to ensure they comply with applicable regulatory and industry standards, including Military Standards, ASTM, AWS, ANSI, and ASME codes. This role sets up and operates precision measuring and test equipment, including laser trackers and tools used in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and prepares detailed electronic and hard-copy inspection reports. The inspector provides quality oversight during testing, supports audits and reviews by customers and regulatory agencies, and helps maintain robust quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect machined parts, components, assemblies, and materials to verify compliance with Military Standards, ASTM, AWS, ANSI, and ASME codes.
- Set up and operate measuring and test equipment, including tools used for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Program and operate Laser Tracker equipment (LEICA models or similar) to achieve part acceptance, including equipment setup, in-process inspection, and final dimensional inspections.
- Utilize Laser Tracker support software programs such as PCDMIS or Polyworks to perform dimensional analysis and inspection activities.
- Apply Spatial Analyzer software at an intermediate level to conduct spatial analysis and verify dimensional accuracy.
- Prepare, update, and maintain computer databases and records related to inspections, measurements, and quality documentation.
- Generate clear and accurate electronic and hard-copy inspection reports and communicate findings to project engineers and other stakeholders.
- Observe testing activities and provide quality oversight to verify compliance with requirements, standards, and specifications.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and perform complex mathematical computations to support inspection and analysis.
- Interact with regulatory agencies and customers during audits and reviews of inspection and calibration activities, providing accurate and timely responses.
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control or other quality control procedures as required.
- Coordinate the procurement of standard materials, services, and parts needed to support inspection activities.
- Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to perform visual and dimensional inspections and quality checks.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and company obligations during the performance of inspection and quality-related tasks.
- Work safely at all times, following established operating procedures and safety practices.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment while also performing tasks independently when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to support quality assurance and inspection functions.
Essential Skills- Proven ability to program and operate Laser Tracker equipment, specifically LEICA models or similar, to achieve part acceptance.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), with an intermediate to subject matter expert level of knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical computations to support dimensional inspection and analysis.
- Experience using Laser Tracker support software programs such as PCDMIS and Polyworks.
- Intermediate level of knowledge using Spatial Analyzer software for spatial and dimensional analysis.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interface with employees at all levels, including leadership.
- Ability to interpret complex information and respond appropriately to a variety of complex quality and technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ISO 9001 and AS 9100/9102 quality management and documentation requirements.
- Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) quality assurance program requirements in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Proficiency in inspection, quality control, quality inspection, and quality assurance practices.
- Ability to use engineering drawings in combination with tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other hand tools to perform visual and dimensional inspections.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience working with Military Standards and other defense-related quality requirements.
- Hands-on experience with ASTM, AWS, ANSI, and ASME codes in an inspection or quality role.
- Familiarity with ISO 9000 series standards and related quality system practices.
- Experience performing visual inspections and quality checks in a manufacturing environment.
- Background in spatial analysis and use of advanced metrology software tools.
- Prior involvement in audits and reviews conducted by customers or regulatory agencies.
- Experience monitoring and verifying quality using statistical process control or similar methodologies.
- Ability to coordinate procurement of materials, services, and parts to support inspection activities.
- Comfort working on new products and new programs in a dynamic engineering and manufacturing environment.
Work EnvironmentThis is an onsite role based in a manufacturing and engineering environment in Tupelo, MS, supporting new products and new programs within an advanced technology group. The position follows a 4x10 schedule, with four ten-hour shifts per week and opportunities for overtime on Fridays. Work involves frequent use of precision metrology equipment, including LEICA laser trackers, GD&T measurement tools, hand tools such as calipers and micrometers, and software such as PCDMIS, Polyworks, and Spatial Analyzer. The role operates within a structured quality management framework aligned with ISO 9001 and AS 9100/9102 standards and Department of Defense quality requirements. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety procedures, regulatory compliance, and detailed documentation, with regular collaboration among engineers, quality professionals, and production teams.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
