Full-time 5th Grade Language Arts Teacher

 

The Dorris-Eaton School, a highly-respected independent K-8 college preparatory school in San Ramon, CA, is seeking a dynamic language arts teacher.

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who will inspire a love of literature and writing while helping students understand how using proper grammar clarifies a writer’s meaning. Our language arts schedule includes separate classes in literature, writing, and grammar, with emphasis placed on reading comprehension, literary analysis, and group discussion. Using the Bay Area Writing Project process provides a strong foundation for writing five-paragraph essays, compare-and-contrast pieces, personal narratives, and book reviews. Grammar instruction extends concepts introduced in kindergarten through fourth grade, preparing students for junior high content.

 

The ideal candidate is committed to creating a classroom that encourages curiosity, exploration, and thoughtful discussion. As a homeroom teacher, expertise with social-emotional learning, executive-functioning skills, and study strategies is highly valued, enabling students to grow with confidence and independence. Qualified candidates will possess:

·        The knowledge and ability to teach upper elementary grades
